10/18/03 -- Jeb's Emails to FR poster, summer, today, re: Terri. (And, a Message to Michael Shiavo)
10/18/03 | summer's emails with Gov Bush

Posted on 10/18/2003 5:15:50 PM PDT by summer

Note to FR: I am posting here an email conversation I had today with Gov Bush about Terri, and yes, he knows I am posting it here on FR.

In my reply #1, located below this post of Gov Bush’s email, I have posted a message from me to Terri’s husband. And, no, I did not discuss with anyone my idea here to write to Terri’s husband. No one suggested it to me. Nor did I discuss it with anyone at all.

In my next reply, reply #2 below, I hope to post a message to my friends here on FR. And, while I would like to respond to each reply that may be posted on this thread, I can not. Due to a pressing personal matter, I will not be able to respond tonight.

However, my thoughts and prayers and hopes remain with each person involved in this matter.

God bless.

Gov Bush,

Thank you, and I have no doubt you would move Heaven and Earth for her if you could.

Sincerely, [summer]

I cannot offer much hope. I am sickened by this situtation and pray for her family. We have looked at every angle, every legal possibility and will continue to do so. It is clear that we need to make living wills the norm for families in our state. Too few people use them.

Jeb

Thank you for your response, Gov Bush. Before I post this, can you provide any measure of hope for a legal way to preserve this woman's life? To think that all her parents want to do is care for her and not see her starve to death, is, I think, not asking for a lot in this world. My own parents would feel the same way about me, I am sure[…]

Is there a way you can utilize Family Law as it pertains to abandonment of a spouse -- on the grounds of lack of sexual contact -- so that the path can be cleared for him to be legally removed by the state or her family as a husband?

Unfortunately, I cannot issue an executive order when there is a court order upheld at every level in the judiciary. Mr. Shiavo is the legal guardian and I can't override that fact. I wish I could but I have no legal authority to do so.

Can you use your authority to issue an Executive Order, to place her in a different hospice that has no connection to her husband, as a temporary stop measure to [get] this woman back on feeding -- so that you have the time necessary to review whatever other options may exist for you? This current situation with her removed from the tubes will result in an irrevocable situation.

An all encompassing "Thanks We Needed That"

On the other hand,
it seems that a company of National Guardsmen, all volunteers, in full combat gear and a respectful request to re-attach the feeding tubes 'until the matter is clearly decided' might do the trick.

There's nothing wrong with turning the guns on Jeb Bush.

Politically, this would be a bonanza for Jeb Bush, if he were able to do something.

Reading his emails on another thread, he's not able to issue "executive orders," or storm the hospice center.

Trashing Jeb Bush may feel good, but it is silly.

Yep.

And we need some kind of Megan's Law, for scum like Michael Shiavo. Wherever he goes and whatever he does in the future, those he meets should be prewarned they are in the presence of someone who killed for profit, and then slipped through the legal system. Let the rest of his life be like OJ Simpson's- knowing that his name is held in contempt, by anyone with a shred of moral virtue.

To my friends on FR, here is my favorite Psalm. I am linking it here for Terri, and for you, and for others who may read this:

Weeping uncontrollably now dear summer. And by the way, my granddaughter's name is Summer.

I pray that Michael will open his heart to your letter. A miracle is what we need at this point. God Be with Us.

There's plenty he could do. That's why we've got the disappointment and disbelief from erstwhile supporters, at his inaction. These times come along in everyone's life, where 'my hands are tied' or 'it's not my department' just isn't good enough. Times when you have to show real leadership- even, make your own precedent. BTW, don't start playing your little games with FR's Christians over the Terri affair, or I'll come down on you like the hammer of Thor. Cheers, By

He's able...just not willing...

I was a grunt in Vietnam and also a combat medic...

I guess I could have said...Sorry Mom...Sorry Dad...that do to intense fire, many landmines,

booby traps and spider holes...I "was unable" to save your son ...

and been just as justified

as Gov Bush...

But In my mind ..I would have also been..

just as much of a coward...

imo

Thanks for the post Summer. I still don't believe that Governor Bush is powerless to do anything! I have emailed him several times, and also Charlie Crist. The Florida statues are very clear on withholding food or nutrition from a disabled adult. I have supported Governor Bush and Charlie Crist, but their lack of action to help Terri is putting an end to any future support. My husband and all of our friends feel the same way.

He could enforce the law. He could even use force to do so. He is the CHIEF MAGISTRATE of the Sovereign State of Florida "deacon". He CAN act, just like he did here - http://writ.news.findlaw.com/scripts/printer_friendly.pl?page=/colb/20030827.html

As a Catholic, I guess I don't fit in your definition of "Christian."

Byron, it's obvious that your hatred of people who disagree with you on one matter extends to every matter.

Is holding a grudge a good thing in your sect?

Too bad Reno ain't in charge.

She'd go in there like Storm Troopers and burn the place down and rescue her!

Then she'd be our hero!

Joni Ericson Tada has come out in defense of Terri, saying that there exist quadraplegics who are in worse shape than Terri that are surviving and functioning mentally and yes, who continue to want to live. What is being done to Terri is euthanasia.

Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Heaven, God went missing for Six days. Eventually, Michael the Archangel found him, resting on the seventh day. He inquired of God, "Where have you been?"

God sighed a deep sigh of satisfaction and proudly pointed downwards through the clouds, "Look Michael, look what I've made." Archangel Michael looked puzzled and said, "What is it?"

"It's a planet, replied God, "and I've put LIFE on it. I'm going to call it Earth and it's going to be a great place of balance".

"Balance?" inquired Michael, still confused.

God explained, pointing to different parts of Earth. "For example, Northern Europe will be a place of great opportunity and wealth while Southern Europe is going to be poor; the Middle East over there will be a hot spot." "Over there I've placed a continent of white people and over there is a continent of black people" God continued, pointing to different countries. "And over there, I call this place America. North America will be rich and powerful and cold, while South America will be poor, and hot and friendly. And the little spot in the middle is Central America which is a Hot spot. Can you see the balance?"

"Yes" said the Archangel, impressed by Gods work, then he pointed to a large land mass and asked, "What's that one?"

"Ah" said God. "That's New Zealand, the most glorious place on Earth. There are beautiful mountains, rainforests, rivers, streams and an exquisite coast line. The people are good looking, intelligent and humorous and they're going to be found traveling the world. They'll be extremely sociable, hard-working and high-achieving, and they will be known throughout the world as diplomats and carriers of peace. I'm also going to give them super- human, undefeatable, strong in character citizens who will be admired and feared by all who come across them".

Michael gasped in wonder and admiration but then exclaimed, "You said there will be BALANCE!"

God replied wisely. "Wait until you see the buggers I'm putting next to them"

I don't buy it either. His brother is the president, and there is nothing either of them can do? Give me a freakin break.

I'm still praying for a miracle, but my heart is heavy right now... I'm sad about this country and the people who see no problem with this, and don't realize what kind of precedent it sets.

Yep. It's called the Sixth Commandment. I hold a grudge against people who commit murder, like Shiavo.

I have a lukewarm dislike for infantile provocateurs who visit this website to sow discord amongst Christians. Which includes you. Now instead of wasting your umpteenth weekend doing that, why don't you go out to the dog shelter and cuddle a shiatsu, or something? Because we don't need you all over the Terri threads, jumping up and down in an attempt to attract the spotlight. Thanks in advance, By
