10/18/03 -- Jeb's Emails to FR poster, summer, today, re: Terri. (And, a Message to Michael Shiavo)
10/18/03 | summer's emails with Gov Bush

Posted on 10/18/2003 5:15:50 PM PDT by summer

Note to FR: I am posting here an email conversation I had today with Gov Bush about Terri, and yes, he knows I am posting it here on FR.

In my reply #1, located below this post of Gov Bush’s email, I have posted a message from me to Terri’s husband. And, no, I did not discuss with anyone my idea here to write to Terri’s husband. No one suggested it to me. Nor did I discuss it with anyone at all.

In my next reply, reply #2 below, I hope to post a message to my friends here on FR. And, while I would like to respond to each reply that may be posted on this thread, I can not. Due to a pressing personal matter, I will not be able to respond tonight.

However, my thoughts and prayers and hopes remain with each person involved in this matter.

God bless.

Gov Bush,

Thank you, and I have no doubt you would move Heaven and Earth for her if you could.

I cannot offer much hope. I am sickened by this situtation and pray for her family. We have looked at every angle, every legal possibility and will continue to do so. It is clear that we need to make living wills the norm for families in our state. Too few people use them.

Jeb

Thank you for your response, Gov Bush. Before I post this, can you provide any measure of hope for a legal way to preserve this woman's life? To think that all her parents want to do is care for her and not see her starve to death, is, I think, not asking for a lot in this world. My own parents would feel the same way about me, I am sure[…]

Is there a way you can utilize Family Law as it pertains to abandonment of a spouse -- on the grounds of lack of sexual contact -- so that the path can be cleared for him to be legally removed by the state or her family as a husband?

Unfortunately, I cannot issue an executive order when there is a court order upheld at every level in the judiciary. Mr. Shiavo is the legal guardian and I can't override that fact. I wish I could but I have no legal authority to do so.

Can you use your authority to issue an Executive Order, to place her in a different hospice that has no connection to her husband, as a temporary stop measure to [get] this woman back on feeding -- so that you have the time necessary to review whatever other options may exist for you? This current situation with her removed from the tubes will result in an irrevocable situation.

Dianna,

Excellent post regarding the dangers of overriding guardianship. I think the legal precedent could have serious consequences for married couples, and religious freedom. I am pained by this case, but also pained by the hysterical posters who have attacked Gov. Bush. Maybe Terri being with God is in fact God's plan, or maybe that is not the case. Nobody however is willing to admit or concede to that. Her husband indeed seems to be a heartless. greedy, and cruel person. But in the end, legal guardianship should be up to spouses, and not parents. If you are a Christian, you should without question marry another Christian.

You do not understand this case, or you would be outraged at what is happening, instead of defending the status quo of politics. One day government may come for you, and there will be no one to speak up for you.

"My husband posited his theory: That Michael wants her dead because he's already contracted to sell her organs.
Wouldn't surprise me in the least.
"

More flack thrown in to get the "lynch mob" hot & bothered?

Wouldn't surprise you? Or is that what you hope.

You've got another day or so. Got anymore hot little rumors?

No she isn't....

Green is a neurologist. Studying the brain is what he does everyday.

About a year ago, he was asked by Terri Schiavo's parents for his opinion on whether or not their daughter was brain dead.

"She's alive....there's no question in my mind she is not brain dead."(excerpt---video of interview at link)

Husband has barred any further pictures or video and to boot denied her communion as part of last rites...wouldn't want her to swallow would we?

Articles have stated that she will be cremated...along with any chance of her ever talking again. Wonder what she would say if she could...

Michael Schiavo may look like a human being, but he is a devil.

This is so true, and the Devil has his followers too! Many such "followers" may really believe that one should be eliminated if he lacks "quality of life." Of course, such a person would quickly change his mind if it were he who for some reason lacked "quality of life." It's all according to who is impacted. People today are so ready to recommend death for others, but not for themselves when similarly situated.

Also meant to add...Look up Wesley Smith "Forced Exit" medical journals are already advocating declaring people such as Terri 'medically dead' so their organs can be harvested. We are well on that road now. Where is Christopher Reeve? He certainly qualifies since he is severely disabled.
For the record I personally am totally against this whole situation.

You certainly don't expect an answer on that one! LOL

Jeb has the final say. The district attorney takes advice from him. Jeb recieved the letter and then the District attorney could review it, I suppose. I was on the phone with the District Attorney when he was getting the letter. The woman whop answered the phone was very excited when I told her about the letter, she came back and said the official word was that the letter was at the captitol and they were waiting to hear from Jeb.

Summer, saw your thread last night, and your ping today will give it widespread notice.

You are to be commended for speaking up for Terri. You have doing what the Word commands--to rescue those that are being led to slaughter. You remind me of Esther in the O.T., who was unafraid to approach her husband , the king, on behalf of her people, the Jews, with a 50-50 chance it would lead to her own demise for being so bold. May God richly bless you.
