I am about to finally leave the urban jungle of Los Angeles and move down to both Louisiana and South Carolina. While I do fish out here, I have only gone hunting a few times with borrowed equipment.
I am interested in starting to hunt, and would love for any freepers to give me recommendations on a good beginner rifle, something that isn't so pricey, but reliable, as well as any other gear that I will need as a beginner.
I am not a stranger to handguns, or to military rifles, I qualified expert on both a .45 and an M16, so I am not starting from scratch, but I am looking for a rifle for deer hunting basically that will not set me back too much money, yet still be a decent value. I plan to not spend that much money so it can be economical. I do know how to fabricate a carcass, and would love to hunt for meat, without the cost of hunting making it more expensive than going to the supermarket.
Any help in this regard, web sites, consumer reports, etc, would be much appreciated. Thanks all.

One more bit of info about hunting in South Louisiana:
Because of the terrain and the thick undergrowth, bow hunting is big in South Louisiana.
Save yourself a lot of time and money when you get down there.
Don't even pick up an arrow or look at a fletch, and, for sure, don't draw a bow!
Else you'll find yourself selling that recurved compound bow with sights and all the accessories to some other idiot for about half of what you've got in it when you find that the only way you're going to kill a deer with an arrow is to stab him to death.
Been there, done that.

I swear you EOD types scare me sometimes...
Graf, 85 or sor. I had a misfire with an RPG-7. Gently put it down, and ran...
EOD type shows up, asked me what the hell it was...
Picked it up by the rocket, and THREW it in his pick-up.
Guy laughed, said "Heck, if that didn't set it off, it ain't goin' off."
So he jumps in the truck and drives away...

Hey Gang,
Last night I tried to post a review thread about that POS movie "The Runaway Jury" but I could not get it to review or post. Anybody having trouble posting new threads, or only me? For those who don't know, the Grisham novel was about the EEEvil tobacco industry, but the movie is about the EEEvil firearms industry.
My sister saw it, this is what she said:
"Bob and I just saw the movie Runaway Jury, the most cliche-ridden movie I have ever seen. It was an anti-gun diatribe that included references to abortion, aids, drug overdose, second-hand smoke, Watergate, Abscam, Linda Tripp, a blind jury foreman, and a 100 pound woman who beats up a 230 pound hired thug. It was so extreme, just a few degrees from a spoof."
I even found some reviews that slammed it, I just couldn't make it post.
