President Bush and First Lady, Laura left California yesterday, and arrived at Tokyos Haneda airport (at around 3:00 am, Pacific time), where they were greeted by U.S. Ambassador Howard Baker. The President met with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi for talks on subjects such as international trade and the reconstruction of Iraq. The President and First Lady were dinner guests at the Akasaka State Guest House, where they dined on Japanese steak and Yakatori chicken, sitting on the floor, but were allowed to dangle their legs through a hole in the floor!
Japan is only the first stop in a whirlwind 9 day tour of 6 Asian countries and Australia, and including the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday. There are LOTS of pictures, many of which could have been selected as the best, (and which I have tried to assemble in some sort of orderly fashion), so enjoy your Daily Dose of Dubya!!

I admire you for you strength to leave an extremely harmful marriage. My mother-in-law has been with a philandering, abusive, manipulative husband for 40 yrs. The harm he has caused her and my husband (their son). . . too much to get into here. But I wish she could have been as strong and blessed as you are to have found a loving husband. Her life would have been so much better, and my husband's too. God bless you both for many, many years!

Thanks very much for your kind words..
I HAD to leave that marriage..I think eventually, he would have hurt me (physically) very badly.
A few years after that, along comes Mr.B, this lovely gray-eyed soft spoken Nebraskan..It's corny, but I loved him the moment I saw him..
He has given me 20+ wonderful years
I AM truely blessed!
I am sorry for your husbands' painful upbringing with a father like that. I wish your MIL had left him too.....

A Nebraskan, huh? Yep, we raise nice guys here. My husband is one of them!
Despite the poor example given to him by his father, my husband is a wonderful father. I am truly blessed to have him, and our kids are too.
So glad your story has turned out so happy!

Gretchen!! Why did you go and post that picture of Reagan wandering into the ocean? Sheesh...here I was getting all excited for a similiar photo of our W doing that very thing and you go and say he won't have time for it. Aaaarrrghhh!

Central. Little town near Columbus. Familiar with it? It was 90 degrees today! Just a little breeze. A few years ago at our sale it was 35 and cold rain. Next week we could have a blizzard--or tomorrow for that matter. You know what they say about NE--if you don't like the weather, just wait 15 minutes and it will change. Where is your husb. from?

Well thanks for putting a picture of W. and Laura frolicking in the waves of the Pacific, hand in hand, while they were in Hawaii. Now I'll NEVER be able to sleep! ;-)

< chuckle > Yahoo dredged up the Reagans' photo as a way to contrast how several other presidents, including RR, have been able to take time in Pacific paradise locations to enjoy the surroundings, but that Bush's schedule doesn't accommodate that. (It sounded to me as if he simply decided not to make time for it.)
I think the pressies, remembering how just about every, if not every, other president who's been to that part of the world enjoyed the sun, sand, surf, etc., are flabbergasted that W isn't following suit.
I think the press would really like it if he did take some vacation time so they wouldn't have to work so hard.

North Central Nebraska..
a little town called Ainsworth..
I have been to Nebraska many times, and sure have a lot of fun out there, even saw a tornado out there once (Yikes!)
We land in Lincoln, and then have to drive 300 miles to get there.
Mr.B came to Maine and fell in love with it, (and me!) and has been here over 30 years..
I know your hubby must be a great guy, he's Nebraskan!

LOL! Sorry about that but I've been dying to see W in a swimsuit!
After seeing all these pictures over the weekend, all I can think is it's a wonder they are not totally exhausted. Of course, they probably collapse when they get back on AF1. I remember pictures of GHW Bush and Barbara Bush on AF1 during trips such as these just totally zonked out in the chairs, fully clothed as if they had just plopped down in the chairs and fallen instantly asleep.
I cannot even begin to imagine what it's like with their schedule and the jet lag to boot! I think W really needs some down time in Hawaii. ;o)

I haven't been to Ainsworth but know where it is. We've had our share of tornados the last few years. Some have caused damage near us, but nothing too serious. This summer we were going to the car races and suddenly my son said, "There's a funnel cloud!" It was pretty far behind us, but to get home we'd have had to drive thru the storm. Long story short(er) we drove 'away' from the storm for 2 hrs. and ended up 50 miles away when we finally gave up driving from it and decided to stop at Applebees for supper and let it blow thru. (we were ahead of the storm and never in any real danger. was on a lot of dirt roads I'd never been on before!) On the TV in the restaurant saw the line of storms was about 200 miles long! Ate and then walked out to clear skies and drove home. Do you have those kind of storms in Maine?

I'd love to see him in a swimsuit too. (wink wink) I just can't imagine Laura being seen in one--not that she wouldn't look wonderful, because I know she would (think it would have a bow?? HAHA) but I think she'd be too modest. I think I've only seen a pic. of her in shorts once, and rarely even in short sleeves.
I still haven't figured out the time difference. I guess it probably makes it a little easier to have someone else make all the plans and tell you what's going on and when and where and etc. But there must be so many 'manners' things to remember, about the different cultures, too! And to be on display all the time . . . exhausting. They do try to make sure they get enough sleep and take care of themselves, but still . . . I think a few days on the beach, with no official events, would do them both good. They'd just need to pose for about 20 mins. a day for photos that we could post here. Think they would agree?

I know that you know that there are some answers we're not going to have this side of heaven......and sometimes that's very hard to deal with, no matter how much faith we have.
Amen.
I just saved the "information booth" info in my faith.doc file.

This is one LOVELY lady..........and I am SURE that her husband LOVED the way she looked in this dress! Yes she is ..
I'm sitting here watching FNC's Sunday morning show I taped and Britt Humes smacking Juan back to the real world
One of the best parts was when Juan arguing about what Dashole said on the Senate floor about the Iraq Bill and how the US shouldn't have to shoulder the burden of footing the bill ... then Tony chimes in .. Juan he voted for the Bill
HA! .. Juan lost that argument
