President Bush and First Lady, Laura left California yesterday, and arrived at Tokyos Haneda airport (at around 3:00 am, Pacific time), where they were greeted by U.S. Ambassador Howard Baker. The President met with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi for talks on subjects such as international trade and the reconstruction of Iraq. The President and First Lady were dinner guests at the Akasaka State Guest House, where they dined on Japanese steak and Yakatori chicken, sitting on the floor, but were allowed to dangle their legs through a hole in the floor!
Japan is only the first stop in a whirlwind 9 day tour of 6 Asian countries and Australia, and including the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday. There are LOTS of pictures, many of which could have been selected as the best, (and which I have tried to assemble in some sort of orderly fashion), so enjoy your Daily Dose of Dubya!!

What a wonderful treat these pics are---thank you!
It's amazing how none of these terrific photos (or the film) finds their way onto the news programs.
I guess nothing interrupts the 23/7 coverage of Kobe and Peterson ;^(

They are made of pineapple and are very cool in the hot weather.Made of pineapple? Really? Interesting information. Thanks, usedtolurk!

From
a pro-Bush article on this thread:
"How does he feel being the most powerful man in the world? He gives a one-word answer, the right answer - "humbling"."
Want to place bets on how many days it takes before "humbling" quotes from Hillary et. al. start showing up in the press? ;)

I'm thinking that it may have something to do with the car accident she was in?

I notice your screenname. Who were you assigned to as Secret Service?

The shirt is called a barong tagalog and it is the traditional dress shirt for men in the Philippines. I think that Presidents since Howard Taft all wear them when they are in the Philippines. They are made of pineapple and are very cool in the hot weather. Much more comfortable than black tie. Thank you so much for posting this. His shirt looked like the other men's at the dinner, so I thought it must be being worn to honor his hosts. It's nice to have the background.

Thank you Gretchen, for these MOST interesting pictures. The architecture and decor is unusual (at least to me) and fascinating to see. I'm glad I had a few minutes to Freep this afternoon!
