FREEPERS, I have taken a break from Terri's 24/7 Vigil to ask for your participation in the next phase of trying to save Terri's life while we wait for good news.
I have not received the Governor's Itinerary for the following week yet from myflorida.com.
We are asking Floridians and out-of-staters to freep the Governor's Mansion in Tallahassee.
If you need ideas for signs, it's basically urging Governor Bush to issue an executive order to stay Terri's starvation.
At this time, the Florida Supremes are reviewing filings today by Terri's counsel.
We need northern Florida to freep Jeb Bush STAT whether he's there or not.
Finally, if anyone receives Jeb's schedule in their e-newsletter, please post it here so we can hold Terri vigils in whatever town Jeb is in.
Sorry, I can't be more informative at this time. I'm sunburn and tired and this request has come from Terri's team. Thank you in advance. Floriduh Voter

Anything in the constitution that is not explicitly given to the Federal government is the province of the states
The Tenth Amendment was essentially taken out of the Constitution in a 1941 ruling in which the U.S. Supreme Court said that states have distinct and separate powers but those powers are not superior to national powers. The amendment was gutted. Bob Dole said he carried a copy of the amendment in his pocket in 1996, but the people weren't interested in the Tenth Amendment. It is no more. I don't understand myself why the Court gives greater priority to some parts of the Constitution, Amendments I and V, for example at the expense of Amendment X.

And that is exactly the things we should be fighting - Every amendment in the Bill of Rights should be FR's sole reason for being. Sometimes we may not LIKE the things that these amendments allow, such as the vile filth that the 1st allows, etc... but ALL of them are important. Well, they are to me. Not so important to those who put their emotions ahead of everything else, though.

You actually believe all Terri needs is rehab? Twelve prominent doctors think Terri is not in a persistent vegetative state and could benefit greatly from therapy.
Why don't you think so? Are you a prominent doctor who has seen Terri Schiavo?
To: Chad Fairbanks
The day I run to the federal government whining and crying, is the say I want someone to put a bullet in my head.
Well, you are a rare bird. Most Americans today can't wait to hold out their hand for a little "federal gravy." This is a phenomenon from ME to HI. It was noted in a column recently that former President Ford held forums in several cities in 1975 to get citizen feedback. Not one citizen came before Ford and urged that the government be curtailed in scope in a single way. All were proposing expanded government programs that would benefit them.
It's good that you are an independent person, but you need a little compassion for the most vulnerable in society. Hubert Humphrey, the father of a retardec child and a man who loved federal programs more than anyone else, said we judge a society on the basis of how it treats its disadvantaged. I don't know anyone more disadvantaged than poor Terri Schindler.

I read it :0) But, as I said, no matter how much this judge wants the case, I don't see him actually doing anything until teh State supreme court makes a ruling. Then, if there is a problem he'll be on it quicker'n crap through a goose. :0)

He yawns at such trivial issues as helpless women being starved to death. His purity is at stake. That matters.

the vile filth that the 1st allows
Do you think George Mason believed that "vile filth" is protected by the First Amendment? Not on your life. You are interpreting the amendment from the eyes of modern-day man, not the founders. George Washington and Alexander Hamilton in fact urged that we have no Bill of Rights for fear that some judges might later say if a right was not specifically listed in the Constitution then we might not have such a right.
Study your Constitution. It's very short, seven articles and 27 amendments.

He filed the papers for the case. He requested the case. Don't you understand that it is FL not releasing it?

But that's just me. I want to see this woman saved as much as anyone, but I won't sacrifice my liberties and freedoms, and everyone else's, to do so...
I think you're going to find out that those forces that are working so feverently to kill Terri are working toward the system that will take care of your "liberties' and "freedoms" for you.....and the rest of us
All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.
....and when they came for me, there was no one left to protest....
To: Calpernia
If you posted a comment that Terri's case is a state issue because the federal court said it is a state issue, I then did miss your post. We would have had the same idea then.
In other words, states now have only the power that the federal courts say they have. States are essentially administrative district of national judicial bodies, as I see the evolution of federalism. Ronald Reagan said the same thing: it's in the Peggy Noonan book about Reagan.
To: Theodore R.
Well, I do care about the disadvantaged among us. I really do. I resent being forced at gunpoint to fork over my hard-earned money for it, though. I believe more in private charities run and funded by private individuals and business who voluntarily choose to do so - it makes for more efficient, cost-effective assistance.
In the case of Terri, as with everything else, I want to see what and how the state supreme court rules before I agree with calling for a federal court to intervene.

No, I'm yawning at you. I had hoped you'd get the point thatr I am no longer interested in your opinions - until you can stop with the name-calling, vile innuendos, and misrepresentations of my character. When you can do that, we can talk like adults. But not until then.

I'd like to inform you that there is at least one good doctor (and I suspect a few more than that) who honestly believe that Terri's condition can improve were she to be given appropriate therapy. There is also a doctor in Edison, NJ, who routinely "coaxes patients into consciousness by working his fingers deep into their muscles." His name is Joseph T. Giacino, and he and 10 others have published new evidence that shows there is something going on in these patients brains. People who have been injured just like Terri! The technology gets better every day, and I for one think it would be nice to be able to use some of it on Terri. She could have a PET scan which I would doubt that she's had any time recently. I'd be surprised if she's ever had one at all! And an MRI with this good doctor and his colleagues could provide measurable proof that Terri reacts to her environment, and therefore, isn't PVS. If Terri got appropriate treatment, yes, I believe that she could improve greatly! But we'll never know if we don't give her that opportunity, now will we?!
To: Chad Fairbanks
I resent being forced at gunpoint to fork over my hard-earned money for it, though.
Chad, Mr. and Mrs. Schindler have lost their house trying to defend their daughter. They have asked that the court permit them to take her home with them at their expense for full-time care. The Schindlers are reputable people with a passion for their disabled daughter. They have held out no hands demanding that government support them. You are so badly wrong on that. You must be very young, for you seem to lack wisdom that (hopefully) comes with aging. And, no, I am not saying that I am wise, for anyone who does is unwise. I don't think you have a clue to how much this family has suffered from the TYRANNY of the State of FL.
To: Theodore R.
That isn't what I posted. I said a Federal Judge requested this case. He filed the paperwork for it, has had phone conversations with Mary Schiavo, sent requests for files on this case, spoke to Jeb Bush's office.
He has not received this case yet. FL hasn't released it. This should be in Federal Courts hands. It isn't because of someone holding up the works. Terri may be beyond rehab or dead by the time FL releases this case.

Well, the problem I have is simple - waht is to stop someone from deciding that what I say is "Vile Filth", and censoring or punishing me for it, jsut because what I said was not politically correct? THe problem is definign "vile filth" - who decides? See the problem?

The state supreme court has already ruled against the Schindlers at least twice. The federal court has refused jurisdiction. While the Supreme Court "nationalized" a "right to abortion," it has left the "right to die" {and capital punishment as well} to the state governments.
To: Chad Fairbanks
Then I misunderstood you. Sorry.
