St. Peter's Square and Basilica are framed by a statue on the Colonnade at dusk during Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II's 25th anniversary Mass at the Vatican (news - web sites), Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003. Tens of thousands of pilgrims streamed into St. Peter's Square for the Mass at 6.pm. - about the same time a quarter-century ago that white smoke from a Vatican chimney alerted the world that a Polish cardinal named Karol Wojtyla had been elected the first non-Italian pope in 455 years. Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II waves to well wishers in Paul VI Hall at the Vatican (news - web sites) October 16, 2003. Pope John Paul celebrated his 25th anniversary as head of the billion-member Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, his body ravaged by illness but his mind still on his mission. The 83-year-old pontiff received a hero's welcome as he was wheeled into the Vatican's vast audience hall before a crowd of cardinals and pilgrims for a morning address. (Max Rossi/Reuters)

Big problem with Polanski: he fled to Europe after being accused of rape.

VATICAN (CWN) -- Sister Lucia, the final survivor among the three
Portuguese children to whom the Virgin Mary appeared in Fatima in 1917, has caused a sensation by saying that Pope John Paul II (bio - news) forestalled a nuclear war when he consecrated Russia to May in 1984. Sister Lucia also said that the famous third secret of Fatima, the subject of so much speculation over the years, is not intended for public revelation. Finally, she said that when Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev asked Pope John Paul II for forgiveness when the two men met in December 1989. However, the Vatican denied this last report.
The rare interview with Sister Lucia, scheduled for television broadcast in Spain on Sunday, March 1, also furnished the material for numerous radio and press reports in Europe over the weekend.
The Vatican press office issued a statement on March 2 contradicting Sister Lucia's report that Gorbachev had "knelt at the Pope's feet and asked for pardon for the sins he had committed during his life." Joaquin Navarro-Valls, the spokesman for the Holy Father, said that report was completely inaccurate.
Sister Lucia said that the third secret of Fatima was never intended to be made public, but "it is only destined for the Pope and the ecclesiastical hierarchy close to him."

BTW, who is the sister in the photo in the upper left? That is Sister Lucia, the only seer of the three who witnessed Our Lady at Fatima who is still alive.

Bump!
To: Truth666
Italian Popes would reign until the one Pope who reigned a long time, would die natural causes- he did.
Then another would be eleceted and die very shortly after.
He did.
Then a NON-Italian would be elected- he was.
Then someone would attempt to assassinate him - he did.
The Pope would survive- he did.
He would die 2 decades later....two more decades later it would be the end of this planet...
