Ohio Freepers, you can now download your petition to repeal the +1% tax increase at http://www.repealthetax.com/petition.aspx

We have until Dec. 15 to get 98,000 signatures. Remember, you cannot sign the petition you circulate, and only the names of voters in ONE county can appear on one petition. If you circulate in more than one county, use separate petitions.

Thanks, I got it working now... there was some kind of cable outage in my area earlier and it screwed up my PC.

I've never done anything like try to collect signatures for a petition before, but this is a worthy cause if I ever saw one.

Let me remind everyone that all signatories must be registered voters; and that you can only have ONE COUNTY per petition (i.e., don't mix up voters from different counties on the same petition). This forces you to carry around, sometimes, 3-4 petitions, but it's better than having signatures kicked out.

Do you have any other advice for a first time petitioner?

Here is what I've found:

1) Don't argue. If peole don't want to sign, you won't persuade them, and you may miss some other sympathetic people in the process.

2) If people need some simple numbers, Ohio has had a growth of .5% in pop. over the last 10 years, but the state budget has grown 70%. In the current budget, $130 MILLION is dedicated to improving WORKOUT facilities at state prisons alone! We can do without this kind of fiscal irresponsibility.

3) A sales tax is regressive, i.e., it hurts poor and lower-income people more than anyone because a higher % of their income goes to necessities. Repealing this would disproportionately help the poor.

4) Make sure each signer is a registered voter, and that you have them sign on a petition of their county of residence.

God bless you. If we have 90 people get 1000 signatures, we hit our mark! My friend and I probably have close to 100 since yesterday.
