David Limbaugh Gives Update On Rush
EIB Network
Posted on 10/16/2003 10:37:18 AM PDT by ventana
At approximately 1:15, Roger Hedgecock, sitting in behind the golden EIB microphone for Rush Limbaugh, interviewed Rush's brother, David. Rush, as fans know, is in rehab for an addiction to pain medication.
David spoke passionately about how completely united the Limbaugh family is around Rush at this difficult time as he makes his recovery and David stressed every family member's support. David was equally passionate about the family's gratitude for Rush's extended EIB family and the prayers, e-mails and offers of support they have provided during the last several days. He emphasized how much this support has meant to Rush, and he additionally emphasized that Rush is making solid progress.
David went on to ask that all of Rush's audience continue in their support both as listeners and individuals praying for Rush's recovery.
Following up, Hedgecock asked David about his new book, Persecution, regarding the war liberals are waging in the public square against Christians. Interestingly, the passion Limbaugh brought to this subject was a throwback to early Rush Limbaugh shows when the moral fabric of society, and the attack thereon often provided fodder for Limbaugh's discussions, spoofs, and insightful commentary. David Limbaugh clearly wished to honor his brother with his appearance and promised that more would be forthcoming in order to keep the EIB audience up to date regarding Rush Limbaugh

They are replaying David now, on EIB. I think if the EIB moguls are shrewd, they will put David on randomly during the week, so the loyal base will be eager to tune in. Hate to bring it down to dollars and cents, but ad revenues are sold months in advance and so EIB has a lot riding here. They must handle all things very delicately. Including not overusing David. V's wife.

I agree that Rush did seem to change a few years ago. I attributed it to his marriage, financial standing, and just getting older. He also changed since he learned to play golf, but there was something else I could not identify.
There was an obvious problem with the growing hearing loss and he seemed to be doing so well after the ear surgery. I don't think many of us ever suspected that he was on pain pills, however.
So many people have become addicted to this stuff and so many lives have been destroyed. I am positive that he would never have predicted this could happen to him, too. It was best for this to happen now before it got further along and affected his ability to function. It was just a matter of time before he would have to go into serious treatment. I am surprised that his wife was not on top of this, though.

That would be a VERY good idea. David is articulate and passionate.

BTW did anyone happen to notice that this weeks QB ratings came out? McNabb is dead last in pass/completions at 49% and second to last overall in QB rating in the entire NFL. Not that he's overrated or anything.

. "By refusing to criticize Rush Limbaugh, every drug warrior has just been exposed as a shameless, despicable hypocrite." I don't suppose it does any good to point out that, because it is illegal, he is in rehab right now.

Isn't it most unusual for communication from a detox facility, especially during the beginning of the rehab program? Sad as it is to say, most have a period where the client must go through the "withdrawl" portion of the treatment as well as an almost bottoming out from a personal perspective (almost like military basic training). It will be very difficult to hear how well or poorly he's doing for some time.
And let's face it, Rush's syndicators and stations are working overtime to hang on to the franchise. There is a lot at risk here for them.
Honestly, I think you'll hear Rush transition form mainstream stations to religion stations that have talk. He may end up being syndicated by the Salem network and aired on their stations.

David is a solid guy. He is smart and passionate about his beliefs, but is open-minded enough to listen to other points of view...I wish he would run for office here in Missouri sometime...

LOL. Beautiful. No I hadn't seen that. Thanks.
Dog - this goes right along with your tagline. See #46.

Okay, the term used was "moral perfection." Same thing. There are not degrees of perfect.

Well....I agree that Rush is not on the level of Clinton and that the drug war was always a side issue for him.
I disagree with the victimolgy that Coulter seems to have embraced i.e. that drugs "hook" individuals to such an accident that individuals are helpless to resist. I still subcribe to Rush's (former?) view which rejected claims that tobacco users were helpless to slaves to their "addiction." I think that this applies to other forms of drugs as well.

Dark days, these. Our jobs are going offshore and Rush is down. Better days ahead.

If moral credibility were predicated on moral perfection, even our church pulpits would be silent. I'm sure liberals would not agree, but in my view, character has as much to do with how we handle our failings as the failings themselves."God created man to be imperfect. Everyone who has ever walked the Earth, is walking the Earth, or is yet to be born to walk the Earth, walks it in sin. Jesus Christ wasn't even created to be morally perfect. He faced the same temptations as the rest of us and stayed above them on inner strength.
It's the most natural thing in the world to sin because all it requires is that you do nothing about your failings...You just roll with it as long as your conscience will allow it. The will power to rise above sin is what sets the moral apart from the sinful.
Just remember: No matter how sinful or how moral you are, every morning that you're fortunate enough to roll out of bed alive until the day you die, your immortal soul is in REHAB!

It is an unusual situation, for sure. As I have said elsewhere, who knows what effect the pressure of the show had on Rush. Your people want and need you, advertisers rely on you, enemies want to see you fail: enormous pressure. By the same token, hard to remove oneself from. He probably is able to have selective communication with his family, at the beginning of his treatment and sometime during the middle and end. So, the very brilliant show producers have to do a bit of, we'll take it from here. Kit Carson is no slouch. V's wife.

He's got a few scores to settle now (Evan Thomas, Al Franken, etc) although knowing Rush, he probably won't sink to their level.I think nothing would p|$$ off the liberals more than coming back strong, and being silent about their criticism. That would set up a nice comparison of who's a class act, and who isn't. Let his performance speak for itself.
