SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A growing militant movement opposed to genetic engineering in agriculture and medicine is turning to sabotage — from the bombing of a biotech company to the destruction of genetically modified crops.

As a result, targeted companies are taking extra security precautions and also often altering business strategies. The violence, which the FBI says suddenly became more serious this year, stems in part from frustration that peaceful protests have failed to slow the pace of biotech's progress.

Politically-motivated sabotage qualfies as terrorism--and should be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.

Interesting name of the company, Chiron. My first thought was Charon, who is the captain of the boat of Death on the river Styx - in Greek Mythology. Kinda freaked me out that a company would name itself after him - especially a biotech company.

But - I did a google search, and came up with a different answer instead. Chiron is from Greek mythology, but was a centaur (half man-half horse). As the story goes, he was immortal, but upon being pierced by Hercules' poisoned arrow, he did not die, but was doomed to feel the pain forever. His search for a cure made him the founder of medicine.

I don't feel so wierd now, in fact, that's a pretty cool name for a biotech company.

Ok, I'm sure that was way more information than you cared to know about, but I'm sure I won't be the only one to think of Charon first. ;)
