Post responses on this thread. Do or die for the Marlins. Break the Curse and Go to the Series or sink into ignominy for yet another year for the Cubbies.
Which will it be? Quien es mas macho?

wondering if he's just a care-taker manager? That's certainly my impression.
The ding-a-ling sports talk guy in Cincy tonight said that he though Dusty would be fired if the Cubs lost. Puh-leeze. They won their first post-season series of any kind in 95 years (having lost in all of their World Series appearances after 1908).
He was also criticizing some Cub fans as barbarians-if the people talking about harming or hurting Steve Bartman are serious, he's right.
Leave the guy alone. He didn't lose the series. He didn't help, but he didn't lose it. The Cubs' "something bad is going to happen now" mentality, which they have obviously never totally shaken, is to blame.

With respect, I'm going
easy on the fans down here. I remember during the losing seasons the Dolphins had. In the late seventies and late eighties. About 2/3 filled in the Orange Bowl and at Joe Robbie.
Fans stick with their club. Maybe the club will get a baseball stadium that young families can go to without getting raped at the parking garage. Or getting hosed at the concession stands. But I doubt it.
Be Seeing You,
Chris

I agree with much of what you say, especially about the need for a baseball park. Wayne Huizenga wanted us to pay for the stadium and always claimed he lost $30 million in 1997. I don't know if he did or not but there has always been a silver lining to the team's breakup. The Marlins, who had a good GM at the time, Dave Dombrowski, liquidated their prime talent for very good young minor leaguers. Just with the pitching alone we have the ripple effect over time that has guys like Beckett and Penny and Willis here today and also produced Matt Clement and Felix Heredia who we are seeing in the playoffs. Not to mention Kevin Millar of the Sox. The point I'm getting to is that success breeds success. I think that when we see this excitement and 65,000 in the seats for the playoffs, the outlook is much improved over the last several years.

Well at least you have Donovan McNabb...the best quarterback in the NFL!!! You are cold.

This guy may have to enter the witness-protection program. I told my roommate that and he laughed... I was serious. Make that the witless protection program!

I have sat in Pro-Robbie many a night with 2 or 3 empty sections next to me. I was at a Rockies game a bit back and caught 22 balls in batting practice. There were 7 people out there with me. I know exactly what you are saying about the fans. But...remember...the Marlins fire sale really was a HUGE fuck you from Wayne. We have someone who will not do that to us now.

Nah, loss builds character, good for the soul. Hopefully he'll learn when to pull pitchers and grow up to be a better manager than his dad (who's pretty good except for that one annoying trait).

I would still take him over Stewart and Chandler.

Next year, you'll have to stop by and watch the Cubbies on our 50" TV. It's the next best thing to being in a sports bar ;-).

Nah, the Yankees inspire a particular level of bile - I can only imagine what the Mets fans must go through. The Cubs & White Sox fans actually intermarry around here ;-). Yeah as a Met fan it's been tough especially since 2 of the world series the Yankees recently played in was against the Atlanta Braves (Our NL arch enemy). George Steinbrenner vs Ted Turner what a freaking nightmare.

I just wanted to point out that you just could not be so tough on Marlin fans after what Wayne did. About the fins, I have no idea because I was not born yet or too young then. But I do know football has always been, and will continue to be, king in this town.
To: My Favorite Headache
Yup, I think now the Marlins will need a true ballpark and no more fire sells and they should be ok.
To: untwist
I think that when we see this excitement and 65,000 in the seats for the playoffs, the outlook is much improved over the last several years. Well, geez. At least a goodly portion of that 65,000 people in the seats were CUBS FANS.
To: NotJustAnotherPrettyFace
Well, geez. At least a goodly portion of that 65,000 people in the seats were CUBS FANS Could it be that the Cubs just have more fans everywhere in comparison to the relatively new Marlins? Also the fact that there are also a bunch of Illinois transplants down here. I know a bunch of them myself. Just like the NY transplants. I believe a great majority of the people who live in South Florida are transplants from one place or another.
To: David1
Right. Exactly. But does that translate into the transplants actually attending regular season Marlins games? I bet the Red Sox and the Cubs get huge bunches of fans just going to their spring training games.
