Fox Sports ^ | October 15, 2003 | Section9

Post responses on this thread. Do or die for the Marlins. Break the Curse and Go to the Series or sink into ignominy for yet another year for the Cubbies.

Which will it be? Quien es mas macho?

Remember, Obey the Billygoat.....

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Props to the Marlins. I'll be rooting for ya if it's the Yanks but against ya if it's the Sox.

The point another poster made about front-running fans in FL is absolutely correct. They're already trying to get a new stadium, aren't they?

God living in Chicago can suck if you are sports fan.

At least you had the '85 Bears and nice little Bulls dynasty for about a decade.

I'm a Philly fan all around. I haven't seen a title since I was 12 years old. I can't even remember what it was like to see a championship.

In terms of sucking, Philly blows Chitown away.

>And the guy in the grey sweatshirt did indeed pull back when he realized what was going on. Only Headset Bartman was clueless.........

One account said that Bartman was escorted to the security office drenched in beer to the chants of "Kill him."

You've been having fun with that all day, and it's been cute, but it's time to stop. Most of the fans aren't blaming the guy, at worst some people think he screwed up but we understand that he didn't make the Cubs lose game 5 or 7 and really didn't contribute much to the loss of game 6. There's been a lot more people SAYING Cubs fans are obsessed with the guy than there actually are Cubs fans obsessed with the guy. One of the things Chicago sports fans have learned over the last century is how teams lose and how to take it with honor. We aren't Cleveland or New Orleans fans pelting the field with beer bottles, we're Chicago fans and we understand (perhaps better than any other sports fans in the world) that feces occurs.

Am I to infer from your post that somebody would actually WANT to be a quasi-celebrity like Joey Buttafuco or Tonya Harding. Yikes.

PS 4:00am - where the heck are you? in Ireland?! ;-)

I was wondering too. I'm in Scotland and it's almost 5:30 AM. I'm figuring he was talking about that's what time he has to get up?

Yeah, and now all the Cubs fans will be pulling for the Red Sox against the Yankees.

Why? Doesn't misery love company?

Go get a mirror, hold your breath and watch yourself turn blue. That should really thrill you until you pass out.

This way you can watch yourself change colors all year round. You don't have to wait until fall. Have fun.

Yeah, I'm happy for my Marlins. They're my home-town team. And they'll be playing for the World Series title. But I cannot help but ache for the City of Chicago.

I Posted much the same, but not nearly as eloquently. You are right about the front running phonies down here (All Dolphins and Canes, nothing else really matters until playoff time, IF the other teams make it there..). They dont deserve this team, whereas Cubs fans are TRUE fans. Just a shame. Had the Cubs won, I was gonna root for them in the World series...

I am glad for the Marlins, but I feel badly for the Cubs fans, oh well, what can ya do.

Yah, brahs. I'm not going to start going to Series games down here just because everyone is going to run down to Aventura, Broward Mall, or their local Footlocker to buy the "clubhouse" t-shirt.

The problem with the Marlins is not the players. It's always been ownership. Wayne Huizenga bought a championship club, then split it apart when he could have parlayed it into a baseball only facility in downtown Ft. Lauderdale. Huizenga killed the Marlins when he broke up that championship organization. But then again, he was always much more interested in running the Dolphins, anyway.

When Wayne killed the club, John Henry took over. He ran the club into the ground. There were games when no one showed up. Henry is the guy who bought the Red Sox. Trust me, Red Sox fans, Henry will find a way to screw that pooch, as well. Only Luria, who came down from Canada after MLB found a way to bail him out of his ownership share of the execrable Expos, patiently decided to rebuild the club. He brought in baseball people, not green-eyeshade people, to run the club. The results you saw on the field at Wrigley tonight.

The Marlins can't be taken seriously as an organization until they find a way to do what Joe Robbie did and build their own ballpark, for BASEBALL. JRS is a football stadium, and is too big to support a ball club over a long season. We need a Camden Yards type field. You'll know Luria is serious if we win, or lose, the series and he gets serious about a stadium.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

I think we were ALL worried about him getting out of the park safely. However, once that was done, we have to keep talking about it - after all this is the town of Capone and where Da Mare (that's Mayor Daley #1 in "Chicago-ese") stole the 1960 election for John F. Kennedy. It's part and parcel to talk about bodies with cement shoes around here who vote at least twice in every election for the Democrat candidates.

When was Philly's last championship (in any of the 4 major sports), the '83 Sixers?
