Here is an amalgamation of trivial facts and seemingly useless data. Do not forget to hit the hyperlinks. We have links, lots of them.

SISYPHEAN |
Of or relating to an endless and ineffective task. This one comes straight out of Greek myth. Sisyphus was a king of Corinth, a son of Aeolus (the ruler of the winds, hence our word aeolian for something produced by or borne on the wind). In later legend he was the father of Odysseus or Ulysses. His name actually meant crafty in Greek: he was noted for his deception and hes the equivalent in Greek folklore of the master trickster who turns up in many folk beliefs, such as Coyote in American Indian mythology. He even managed to cheat Death the first time around, surviving the experience to live to a ripe old age. In Greek legend Sisyphus was punished in Hades for his misdeeds in life by being condemned eternally to roll a heavy stone up a hill. As he neared the top, the stone rolled down again, so that his labour was everlasting and futile. The word first appeared in English in the middle of the seventeenth century. It isnt used much these days because so few people understand the reference to classical literature. |

On this day: 1968 - Led Zeppelin made its performance debut in England.

1860 - Grace Bedell, 11 years old, wrote a letter to presidential candidate Abraham Lincoln. The letter stated that Lincoln would look better if he would grow a beard.

1917 - Mata Hari was executed by a French firing squad. Hari was a Dutch dancer that had spied for the Germans. The very name of Mata Hari has become synonymous with spying, espionage, intrigue, and sensuality. Excuse me, but her top reminds me of pancakes! |

Sin, cosin, every where a sin. |

1998 - James Woods received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. One of Hollywood's most intense supporting and leading actors, James Woods has built a distinguished career on stage, screen, and television. Early in his career, Woods, with his lean body, close-set eyes, and narrow, acne-scarred face, specialized in playing sociopaths, psychopaths, and other crazed villains.
I honestly admire you James Woods. "It's just a bunch of old shit - all these guys pretending to be a radish." Just in case you missed it, the James Woods quote site is here below linked. http://www.hillebrander.de/woods/quotes.htm |

Sorry I didn't answer you earlier.
I had to go look at a house. I loved going down to LL Bean. They opened an outlet store while I was there and it was great. Good stuff, real cheap. When you get back home to Brunswick make a trip down to Kittery and go to the Kittery Trading Post. It's an outdoor store much like the Bean store without the fish.

Volunteers Say Thank You With Care Packages
By U.S. Navy Journalist 2nd Class Mark Schultz / USS Wasp
NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 14, 2003 (NNS) The crew of the multipurpose amphibious assault ship USS Wasp and Marines aboard with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit now have something to look forward to while away from home.
A Reston, Va., YMCA volunteer group donated more than 300 care packages to Wasp crew members Oct. 5, in appreciation of their service to America.
Constance Killion, a retired Navy commander, heads up the volunteer organization that collects supplies included in care packages that are distributed throughout the world to deployed sailors, Marines, soldiers and airmen.
You can put away the uniform and frame your retirement letter, but your heart never leaves, said Killion. I do this because people want to let military members know they appreciate their service. They dont know who you [service members] are or how to say thank you. This is one way.
"This volunteer group started after Sept. 11, and Wasp was the first ship to get a delivery of these care packages, said Cmdr. George Adams, command chaplain, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. Constance was able to get donations here and there, but as news of the effort spread, contributions started coming from many different organizations.
