Pancakes on Wednesdays
Pancakes and pumpkins, a match made in Heaven.

Welcome to Pancakes on Wednesdays.

Wednesday October 15, 2003

Here is an amalgamation of trivial facts and seemingly useless data.

Do not forget to hit the hyperlinks.

We have links, lots of them.

Look it up!

SISYPHEAN
Of or relating to an endless and ineffective task.

This one comes straight out of Greek myth. Sisyphus was a king of Corinth, a son of Aeolus (the ruler of the winds, hence our word aeolian for something produced by or borne on the wind). In later legend he was the father of Odysseus or Ulysses. His name actually meant “crafty” in Greek: he was noted for his deception and he’s the equivalent in Greek folklore of the master trickster who turns up in many folk beliefs, such as Coyote in American Indian mythology. He even managed to cheat Death the first time around, surviving the experience to live to a ripe old age. In Greek legend Sisyphus was punished in Hades for his misdeeds in life by being condemned eternally to roll a heavy stone up a hill. As he neared the top, the stone rolled down again, so that his labour was everlasting and futile. The word first appeared in English in the middle of the seventeenth century. It isn’t used much these days because so few people understand the reference to classical literature.

Orange colored, pumpkin flavored pancakes, rule.

Happy Birthday

Virgil 70 B.C.

Arms, and the man I sing, who, forc'd by fate,
  And haughty Juno's unrelenting hate,
Expell'd and exil'd, left the Trojan shore.
Long labors, both by sea and land, he bore,

Virgil is Girl IV spelled sideways, and that absolutely no meaning.

Happy Birthday

Friedrich Nietzsche 1844

Thus Spake Zarathustra.

2001 a Space Odyssey.

more.

"How did reason come into the world? As is fitting, in an irrational manner, by accident. One will have to guess at it as at a riddle."

In essence, God must be dead, else, why would those who profess to believe in God behave so abominably?

Happy Birthday

Mario Puzo 1920

I made an offer of pancakes, that he couldn't refuse!

Godfather.

Todays Wednesday field trip takes us to the
on-line
pumpkin carving site

Happy Birthday

Lee Iacocca 1924.

I am an excellent driver.

FORD= Fix Or Repair Daily

Lee Iacocca's next venture into electric vehicles, the Lido NEV, offers both style and function in a proven platform.

We now know who really stole Pee Wee Herman's bicycle.

Proglottids

How come noone ever posts about Anti Glottids?

Happy Birthday

Jim Palmer 1945

We are counting cards.

3-time Cy Young Award winner (1973,75-76); won 20 or more games 8 times with Baltimore; 1991 comeback attempt at age 45 scrubbed in spring training.

Ball Four.

Yes, I read his book,. long ago. I did not care for the part about snots, or the part about Humans defecating on birthday cakes. It is all in there. I suggest that you take Ball Four, and walk away from that stupid book.

Hey Jim, can I have your autograph?

Would you like a Halloween Screensaver with your pancakes?

On this day:

1968 - Led Zeppelin made its performance debut in England.

And she is buying a stairway to pancakes in heaven.

1860 - Grace Bedell, 11 years old, wrote a letter to presidential candidate Abraham Lincoln. The letter stated that Lincoln would look better if he would grow a beard.

Beards? We don't need no steenkin' beards!

1917 - Mata Hari was executed by a French firing squad. Hari was a Dutch dancer that had spied for the Germans.

The very name of Mata Hari has become synonymous with spying, espionage, intrigue, and sensuality.

My those are succulent pancakes on your bikini top!

Excuse me, but her top reminds me of pancakes!

Sin, sin, everywhere a sin, and still, the people wonder.

Sin, cosin, every where a sin.

1998 - James Woods received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

One of Hollywood's most intense supporting and leading actors, James Woods has built a distinguished career on stage, screen, and television. Early in his career, Woods, with his lean body, close-set eyes, and narrow, acne-scarred face, specialized in playing sociopaths, psychopaths, and other crazed villains.

"Everything is denial. All these girls in Hollywood walk around with these bottles of water so they won't get toxins in their system, and they're all fuckin' dying of anorexia nervosa.

I honestly admire you James Woods.

"It's just a bunch of old shit - all these guys pretending to be a radish."

Just in case you missed it, the James Woods quote site is here below linked.

"I never did master the cold though, even after spending many years in it I'd still rather have the heat and humidity of south Alabama."

Amen. The cold and snow up there, and the salt they use for the roads, cost me the paint job on my Mustang during my last tour. I much prefer the environment around Jacksonville NAS in Florida, and that's why Mrs. Cut and I maintain our home there.

I'm just hoping I can preserve my current car...a 2001 Camaro SS (see my homepage).

Nice car. I sold the Pontiac equivilant for a while. Absolutely loved it. I hated going on test drives on it though. People that can't drive muscle cars shouldn't. It's a shame that GM quit making them. They lost a loyal market when they did.

Yeah, it's a beauty, all right. It is without doubt the most fun car I have ever driven. GM dropped the ball on the F-bodies in more ways than one, although the quality of the premium models wasn't one of them, probably because of SLP's influence.

They made a mistake, IMHO, by abandoning Musclecars like they did. Ford's Mustang will be happy to pick up the slack, and so will Chrysler if they ever get a new Charger to market.

My ride's name, La Contessa, was picked by our own La Diva Loca.

"Stay safe and warm!"

Oh, I will. I just got my anniversary gift from Mrs. Cut (only three weeks late, too. Thanks, USPS!), and she sent two quilted "Riverdriver" shirts and socks from L.L. Bean. They'll be well used, trust me.

1892 An attempt to rob two banks in Coffeyville, Kan., ends in disaster for the Dalton gang as four of the five outlaws are killed and Emmet Dalton is seriously wounded.

Errata. This raid in fact took place on 5 Oct 1892

Early in the morning on Oct. 5 1892 five members of the gang, Bob, Grat, Emmett, Bill Power, and Dick Broadwell rode into Coffeyville. They tied their horses in the alley across from the banks, then strolled across the street and divided into two groups and enter the Condon National Bank and First National Bank.
However they were recognized by citizens and the alarm was given. Townsmen quick armed themselves with weapons from the local hardware stores and took up positions to defend the town. As the bandits tried to make good their escape a fierce gun battle took place in which four citizens and four bandits loss their life.
Emmett, the sole surviving member of the gang, was seriously wounded. He would recover from his wounds and stood trial for the crime. He was sentenced to life in prison, but was later pardon by the governor, and spent the rest of his days in California.
