RED SOX/YANKEES GAME 4 ALCS BASEBALL - Red Sox Win 3-2
Me

Posted on 10/13/2003 4:37:01 PM PDT by mikemc282002

Ok, rain's gone away and it's a beautiful fall evening here in Boston. I've never post anything on FR, so I apoligize in advance if I'm doing it wrong. I don't know anything about pinging or anything like that. Hope the usual suspects find this.

I hope we can move the discussion back to baseball. I'm so tired of Pedro, Manny, Zim, Garcia and the bullpen guy. I think the players have at least temporarily put all incidents aside and will return to playing the game without the extra theatrics.

With that in mind, let me say this: the idea that all Sox fans are English soccer hooligans is as false as saying all conversatives are racists. Most Red Sox fans are extremely passionate about baseball and most of us have Yankee fans as friends, neighbors, co-workers, and even spouses. The media potrayals I've seen in some cases have grossly exaggerated the truth about Boston fans. Yes, we want to win - just ONE DAMN TIME before we all die. Yes, there are a few jerks who get out of hand. But that can be found at Yankee stadium, Wrigley Field, or just about any professional sports event (except Expos games, let's face it no one is even there to fight). At the end of the day, whether the Sox are in the playoffs or 25 games out, it's all about cracking a beer, having a hotdog and enjoying life.

Play ball!

Playing the game on PS2 as we speak...

I read somewhere of a cheat that when done correctly, an animated Zimmer storms out of the dugout and takes a swing at the groundskeeper.....

The Yankees have the best closing 1-2 punch in baseball with Contreras and Rivera.

Seems like they have always had such. They had a pitcher named Arroyo years ago. 'Dry Gulch' for batters. Forget about scoring some runs when he came in.

I am a life long Red Sox fan and I have to be honest. I feel bad for Don Zimmer. He normally is a class guy. We have all done stupid things in our lives, but to do it on national TV, what a nightmare. I would love nothing more than a Red SOx - Cubs World Series. Don't count the Sox out. THe Yankees are obviously a good team but certainly beatable. GO SOX !!!

Also, Nomar needs to break out of his awful slump. The Sox need his bat as well as his glove.

Hope nobody takes this the wrong way, but Grady Little really does sound like Forrest Gump. It's kind of endearing, (and I'm a Yankee fan).

Thinking about soccer hooligans Sox/Yank fans have nothing on Glasgow's Ranger/Celtic rivalry.

I actually was in a bar in Austin, Texas where two Glaswegians beat holy hell out of one another in the parking lot.

Then again, it's an Irish Catholic/Protestant thing with all the Northern Irish migrants living there.

Glasgow is also a dump--great bands though.

"In the old days, when men were men, they threw at each other until no one was standing." -- Charles Krauthammer on Brit Hume's show, about what he characterized as "grown men in pajamas pretending to have a fight" Saturday night; he recalled a Boston pitcher in 1976, "Spaceman" Lee whose career was ended in the brawl with the Yankees that year, the time that Juan Marichal went after another player with a bat, and the time Ty Cobb climbed 12 rows into the stands to beat the hell out of a spectator.

It was wonderful.

I'm surprised Nomar is in a slump. Good for me as a Yankee fan, however, this is unusual for him.

Like Ortiz, he might bust out at the best possible moment.

Different Red Sox team.

How many times have we heard that since 1918.

WHo knows. Maybe. However, I have a feeling the Wankees are gonna get bent over and we'll have a Sox/Cubs series...

Seems like they have always had such.

The best was when Rivera was the set-up dude, and Wetteland was the closer.

Due to them, the Yankees had an incomprehensible streak of 101-6 when leading after just 6 inning. 101-6!

Once I get the guy who wrote me to answer my questions, I'll be Freepmailing some dudes on an interesting story regarding how all this started.

Explains but does not excuse why Zim went nuts.
