Interesting, really. I don't recall ever seeing any slam-piece regarding Al Franken and his wife's battles with alcoholism, originating from conservative attacks.

That would be the same Al Franken, who as a head writer at SNL, would have been involved in writing/approval process of the Chris Farley "motivational speaker" sketches '..living in a van, down by the river.' all the while Farley was having a major RECREATIONAL drug problem, that he ultimately died from.

If Al wants to see real hypocracy, he need to take a clue from another of his sketches (Stuart Smalley) and take a look in the mirror.

Did you break any laws while you were addicted?

Yes I did and yes I was. The punishment was one of the best things that ever happened to me. Sometimes you need to be knocked on your knees to realize your going the wrong way.

Pray for GW and Rush

He's never been absent 30 days before. So how could he have gone through rehab before?

Not sure, but I think that was what he said in his last radio address...

"Why should he get rehabilitation while an ordinary druggie gets prison? "

For the same reason JFK, Elvis, Richard Carpenter, and countless hollywood types, like Charlie Sheen, and countless musicians have escaped jail time.

Of course, not very many of them are Conservatives...and EVERYONE knows that if you are a Conservative, you cannot screw up...not even one little bit.

However, liberals are given passes for the same (and worse) offenses, such as getting head on the Presidental Seal in the Oval Office, Lying under oath, and people mysteriously coming up dead who are associated with these people.

Yes, Rush screwed up...and the clintons and their ilk are rejoicing. We'll just have to wait and see how this pans out, but I believe the grass roots Conservatives will stay with Rush and not let the Conservative trend falter.

Yes, prescriptions are specific, but there isn't a one of us who won't double-dip the old pain killers when it hurts bad enough.

It's funny to see the libs acting "Holier than thou" when they profess not to believe in "Holy". I'll bet their rantings about Rush will forever prevent any LIEberals from listening to him...(sarcasm intended). For the rest of us, the banner of a Conservative is the ability to make up our own minds, and think for ourselves...so just because some mangy haired liberal journalist hack is beating up on Rush, doesn't mean everyone agrees with them.

I wasn't the least bit interested in politics until Rush came along, and I don't know about the rest of you Conservatives, but I'm going to "dance with the one who brung me".

I'll continue to vote Republican, if for no other reason, than to piss off the liberals.

The first quote is not mine. The second one is, and I think that like other crimes, the punishment should be judged upon the nature of the crime and the individual involved. Not all drug addicts are hardened criminals. I hope for your sake that a family member or friend of yours never gets involved with drugs, because if they do, you will soon see the other side of the coin.

Being conservative means that you don't have double standards. What is wrong for others is wrong for our leaders, demagogues, etc. Others may follow the cult of the celebrity, but I don't.
I don't begrudge Rush his pain killers. His malady sounds awful. I think he should have been able to prescribe them for himself with no doctors involved. Just sight the book and go...
The irony is that he had such a strong pro drug-war stance, even against medical marijuana.

A question for those of you out there who are so adamant about pushing this illogical war on drugs. So, you like to see drug pushers in jail, right? And those people who buy drugs from those pushers? You want them in jail too, right? Yeah, damn right! Lock them all up!

No Neil, I want them on the street, living off the government teet!

These Losertarians are nuts when it comes to drugs. The day after Boortz gets rid of Welfare, then and only then can he start ranting about Legalizing Drugs. Otherwise he's enabling a whole new level of subsidies abuses, and needs to grow up.

I agree with you - in fact, I don't think drug addicts should be prosecuted at all. I have known people who have been invoved with prescription and non-prescription drug abuse. My bad - I thought the first quote was yours but I was wrong - I have no quarrel with what you say.

As a first time offender, Rush should neither recieve anything more, or less; than what anyone else would get.

There's a really good chance that means jail. Apparently, Rush received Fedex shipments of drugs from out-of-state. If that does prove to be the case, federal mandatory minimums will kick in - the majority of first time users who get sentenced under Federal law do go to jail (about 80%, I believe).

Evan Thomas writes this in a current Newsweek article: "The man behind the curtain is not the God of Family Values but a childless, twice-divorced, thrice-married schlub whose idea of a good time is to lie on his couch and watch football endlessly. Nice."

Of course they take such glee in seeing a man's character trashed, under Clinton this was SOP against his detracters.

One should not be surprised, it is their way.

Jail is an option for Rush. In fact, without that as a deterent do you think he would even consider entering rehab ?

The other issue of concern is the ALLEGATION that Rush bought 30,000 pills. This would translate to ingesting a little over 80 pills/day over the course of a year; or selling. So, if he is not only purchasing drugs for his own use, but also distributing them; he is facing some serious time.

Considering that putting away both users and distributors has been a focal point of his books; I think it's poetic justice that he will be receiving EXACTLY what he has been saying we should do everyone else. Or are we supposed to make exceptions for Rush? Everyone ELSE goes to jail...

.....maybe Rush's stance ("manditory (sic) sentencing") has to do with ILLEGAL drugs?

Well once you take drugs without a prescription you ARE taking those drugs ILLEGALLY. Period. He also was incentiving others to beak the law (the housekeeper and his other(?) dealers), did he drive while high on drugs?

Unfortunat;u Rush gave the libs a big stick to beat him with. Just as sad many conservatives are rationalizing his behavior and in the process torturing as badly as Carville and Begala did while defending the Rapist.

Remember folks how Gray Davis mocked Arnold's way of saying California and the last minute hit by the LA Times. Please take note that at the end of the day Arnold and Tom McClintock garnered 64% of the the total vote cast in California. These morons that are attacking Rush are in for a big surprise. I only listen to Rush now and then, but as soon as he returns, I'll be tuned in every day! Rush will be stronger and gain more listeners then he has ever had. I know, I went through a serious operation in 1998 and craved the morphine to kill the pain. Fortunately, I was eased off the morphine and never got hooked. These bastards that mock Rush ought to try living in painful shoes one time! Rush will rule again, no matter what the Democrap idiots say. It is really a shame that the American people do not focus on or realize that the Democrat Party is directly responsible for every death of every American military person in Iraq. Their actions only serve to encourage the Arab/Muslim terrorists onward. The likes of Saddam & Bin Laden are just loving the Democrat Party big time. Golly Gee, we've got our own Democrat fifth column right in the USA working for our cause, the death of all Americans, Jews and Christians! Oh, by the way, Mr. & Mrs. America, you and your children are next, if the Democrats ever get into power! Oh, well, the Romans & Greeks had their day. I guess we're next. It will be a self-inflicted wound caused by the American people themselves! We have already forgotten 911! Sad commentary on a once great nation!

I wasn't sure either. He said domething like he, "tried to quit twice before with medical help," or something like that. What exactly that means I have no idea.
