LIBERALS ARE BESIDE THEMSELVES WITH GLEE (about Rush)

Today marks the first broadcast day of Rush Limbaugh's four-week hiatus for treatment of his dependency on prescription pills, and many on the left couldn't be happier.  The left typically shows more compassion for a mass murder who lost his latest appeal than they are showing for Limbaugh.  So, where is all of this much-celebrated liberal compassion?  I suppose we forgot that liberals usually show their compassion by spending someone else's money.

Some on the left are looking at Rush's month of drug rehab as the perfect time to do a little "kicking while they're down."  Evan Thomas writes this in a current Newsweek article:  "The man behind the curtain is not the God of Family Values but a childless, twice-divorced, thrice-married schlub whose idea of a good time is to lie on his couch and watch football endlessly. Nice."

It's odd, isn't it?  The left can't find a way to criticize a welfare brood mare who downloads a succession of future jail inmates she can't possibly afford to raise, but they're eager to apply the "childless" label to someone who can afford to raise a child, but has none.

NOW --- ABOUT THAT WAR ON DRUGS

A question for those of you out there who are so adamant about pushing this illogical war on drugs.  So, you like to see drug pushers in jail, right?  And those people who buy drugs from those pushers?  You want them in jail too, right?  Yeah, damn right!  Lock them all up!

Most of the people who adopt this "take no prisoners" attitude on drugs are conservative.  Most, not all.  Read the law.  If Rush Limbaugh was doing those things that the National Enquirer says he was doing, then he could conceivably face quite a lengthy jail term.  Is that what you want?  Are you grumbling to yourself that Rush ought to be getting his treatment in a hospital jail ward somewhere?

What's the deal here?  You're celebrating (as you should) Rush's decision to seek treatment.  If this is such a good option for Rush (and it is) then why isn't it a good option for some sap from the inner city who succumbs to neighborhood peer pressure and gets hooked on drugs?

The conservative movement doesn't need weaklings falling apart at this time. I mean people who are jumping to judgement on Rush. Lets see how this all plays out. Like all stories it becomes unimportant after time. If Rush serves jail time...so be it. You can alienate yourself from his acomplishments and join the ranks of the socialist left..and is that the answer. Stand by Rush. He has definitley given more than he has taken and I'm sure he will do whats right.

Well, duh! What did you think the libs would send get well card and flowers? How much joy does it bring to a conservative heart that Bill Clinton now is a political kiss of death? Or, Gray Davis's demise. There is a perverse joy in the troubles of our enemies. Please, I don't care one way or the other about Rush. He runs a funny radio show that entertains me. A smile will come over my face when the Republicans and Democrats are soundly trounce in some future presidental race.

Lucianne has a great commentary about Rush and the libs on her short cuts. Well worth the read.

Only a moron or a kitten-eating reptile from outer space could honestly believe that Rush should be jailed.

Make your call, folks!

Interesting, really. I don't recall ever seeing any slam-piece regarding Al Franken and his wife's battles with alcoholism, originating from conservative attacks. I can only speculate that conservatives, on policy, find it unproductive and cowardly to resort to personal attacks and slams of that nature.

I also recall vividly the evening that Clinton's mother passed away, and how Rush -- on tv broad cast -- publicly extended his condolences to the Clinton family, saying that his firmly-entrenched political views would never prevent him from sympathizing with others in pain.

Libs could take a lesson or two from this guy. But I won't hold my breath.

Point 4) if we are going to ever decriminalize drugs we will have to do it the libertarian way, not the liberal way--people who overdose don't get free medical treatment (at others expense), people who choose to waste their lives away on drugs don't get welfare, or SS or anything else. etc etc.

A lot of people have been hoping that once all the childish name-calling and attacks from the Rush-hating left subsided that maybe, just maybe, this would be the point where the entire drug war would be reconsidered. After all, if someone like Rush could get caught up in it, it could happen to anyone. Instead the conservatives have decided to rationalize this as being different because these were "legal" drugs, and that somehow addiction is cleaner and more acceptable if the product originates from a pharmacy instead of an indoor hydroponics operation or imported from Columbia. The drug war has failed, just like the war on poverty failed.

There are plenty of people out there hooked on prescription drugs prescribed by their doctor. I do not hold this against these people but I do hold people who do illegal drugs responsible for what they do. Am I wrong?

An Rx is very specific. When the patient sets his own terms and purchases more chemicals than prescribed he is of course setting in motion the distribution of illegal dangerous narcotics.

Mr. Limbaugh needs to stop making excuses (my poor back) (don't want the operations) (can't stop) and realize he is not in control...and it is time to let go and take some of the advice he is so quick to pass out...pun intended.

Rush is published as stating that he is for manditory sentencing for drug pushers and users.

There should be a difference, however, between users of illegal drugs purchased for mind altering alone, and prescription drugs, when acquired without prescription for the purpose of pain relief.

In Rush's case it is quite provable that his addiction started by having these drugs prescribed for pain. The reason that buyers are seldom dealt with has to do as much with resources as anything else, it simply becomes more practical to target dealers, and dealers alone, when law enforcement attempts to deal with the drug problem.

Nonethleless, if Rush gets back on the drugs after rehab he should face jail time.

He's already gone back on drugs after going to rehab twice. Doesn't that mean he should be facing jail time now?

These low life underestimate Rush the same way they underestimate Bush. Yes, Rush will have the last laugh and so will all of us. Rush is a strong, determined and intelligent personality and he WILL be back with a vengence and we'll all be there waiting for him. He will turn this whole episode into a positive.

Why should there be a difference? Illegal drugs are illegal drugs. He obtained these drugs illegally - a crime. Why should he get rehabilitation while an ordinary druggie gets prison?

(Personally, I like Rush, but I'm against the drug war. I hope this gives him a new viewpoint on it...)
