Notwithstanding her star power, or the fact that she can raise money and build an organization, some political experts say the drop-dead date has already passed for Sen. Hillary Clinton to seek the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004.

Clinton's husband, the former president, a relative unknown at the time, officially launched his campaign on Oct. 4, 1991, though he had been campaigning in key states and building a political base before then. Still, since Bill Clinton's late entry, the date has been a guidepost for would-be candidates, said Democratic Party spokeswoman Deborah DeShong.

While I agree with the above statement, I don't agree that this puts Hillary out of the picture.

Remember this: The dems didn't get it. The public got it - and they got rid of Davis. But .. the dems are still making excuses for the loss and trying to say this landslide was a referendum on "incumbents", and this means Bush is in trouble. I'm telling you .. the dems did not get it.

I think that the Schwaz win in California reduced the chance that Mrs. Clinton will run this time. The Clinton machine made an all out attempt to bring down the three main obstacles to a Clinton run. Schwaz turned the assault aside with seemingly no effort. Rush is not noticeably hurt and will probably gain audience and the Wilson "leak" scandal has already faded without produucing anything. It would take W dying in office or being caught with a boy monica to bring Mrs Clinton to try it in 04.In 08 she doesnt have an incumbent to deal with and the dems look set to lose anyway this time around. Her best bet is to not run and to help to secure a loss by whatever Crat is the nominee in 04.

I totally agree with you, she has already held that job and she worked her buns off getting her hubby elected. She made sure that he let us know we were getting "two for the price of one" and boy what a price.

The NJ Senate race showed us that for Rats, time limits mean nothing. Even if its written in the rules, the Rats will find a judge or court to overturn them, or some other way of cheating. Hillary! is just biding her time, seeing which way the polls go on Bush. The moment he looks beatable (which will depend on how the economy is this time next year), she'll be in there, and stab Clark and the other Rats in the back without missing a beat.

And the media will back her, you can count on that. If the CA recall taught us anything, it's that there are no "journalists" out there anymore. All there are are operatives for the Democratic Party. Imagine an LA Times/media frenzy on a national level. That's what it will be like if Hillary! runs.

I agree. The thought of Hillary nominated for President leaves me scared spitless because I am not convinced that she would not, could not win, especially with the inevitable help of the liberal media and hollywood aristocracy. I will do my part to prevent it, but that's just one vote. Given the Clintons' track record (what they are willing to do to get and retain power), I think anything, including the unthinkable, could happen.

To those of you who say she cannot win, on what do you base that assertion? I would like to know because I also would like to feel confident that she is unelectable.

I hope something or someone smokes her out of her hiding place between now and next November, and I want the battle joined and decided so we don't have to put up with her style of deceptive politics for another four years. It's probably too much to wish for, however. Should she be beaten like she deserves to be beaten, I really don't see her slinking back under a slimy moist rock where I'm sure she resides.
