The traffic situation is going to be a nightmare. The Elks Rodeo is ending today - it's the biggest event of the year here. Highway 154 (San Marcos Pass) is the only way south and it's gridlocked. The only alternate route south is 166 East to I-5, and that's a heckuva long detour.
I know the 166 very well...although I havent taken it since it washed out that night and the CHP officers were lost.
I was planning on going to Hearst Castle tomorrow...think it will be I-5/46 for me.
I replied, thanking him for his service to our state, and mentioned the tragedy that took the lives of Officers Rick Stovall and Britt Irvine. We here on the Central Coast will always honor their memory.
Thanks for the map - Vandenberg enters the scene ...
... and to the EAST, Los Alamos reminds of another wildfire ..
... the very same day the Pope came to Fatima one LAST time ... to deceive the catholics with the fraud of the "revelation" of the third secret.
Put your faith in God, not false prophets and sourcery.
By that I think you mean that the true (or "complete") third secret has not been revealed. Many more traditional Catholics feel that way including myself.
This sure screws Amtrak. All summer long.

Wildfire burns 6,000 acres in Santa Barbara County
GAVIOTA A wildfire that prompted the evacuation of about 500 people burned out of control Sunday across 6,000 acres in Santa Barbara County.
The blaze threatened 150 homes in the gated community of Hollister Ranch as people were also ordered to leave three state beaches, said Jan Purkett, a spokeswoman for the county fire department.
The blaze broke out before noon Saturday in a section of the Gaviota Pass, about 27 miles north of Santa Barbara, and burned across narrow canyons and steep hillsides covered with chaparral.
There were no reports of injuries.
Firefighters had no estimate on when the fire might be contained. The cause was under investigation.
Venus is still plunging (from our perspective) towards the Sun, the last area that wildfires spared since 1960 is still burning ... it's time for a flashback.
February 8 1960 - it was all of a sudden learned through a simple press release from the Vatican, that the Third Secret of Fatima would not be revealed.
October 11 1962 - Second Vatican Council opens. It called for abolition of the ancient liturgy. The Church no longer had enemies, said 'Good Pope John' (XXIII), as the media immediately called him.
November 22 1963 - The Council's first edict, called Sacrosanctum Concilium (This Sacred Council), was issued. St Cecilia's Day, patroness of the very music it destroyed, while in Dallas Texas, indeed while the Council still deliberated, President Kennedy was assassinated.
September 11 1978 - the Wall Street Journal reported the words of Cardinal Charles Wojtila, now Pope John Paul II, addressed to US bishops during his visit to Philadelphia: "We are standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has gone through. I do not think the wide circle of the Christian community realises this fully. We are facing the final confrontation between the Church and the Anti-Church, the Gospel and the Anti-Gospel, Christ and the Antichrist."
September 26 1997 - an earthquake rocked the town and caused the roof of the basilica to collapse, killing two Franciscan brothers and damaging the Giotto frescos.
