HORSERACE JOURNAL- ISM: Iowa Republicans are starting to feel better about their prospects next week. They've been out-hustled by the Democrats' absentee-ballot program and have been a little down. It looks like Republicans might lose a number of close races because of that program. But GOP polls are looking up, and Democrats appear to be having some problems with their absentee-ballot effort.

Poll Ping!
Interesting article on the GOP prospects in Iowa. Granted, all the polling is partisan GOP polling, but even if the numbers are puffed up by the normal amounts, things might look brighter in the House races there than many have intimated.
If you want on or off my poll ping list, let me know!

U.S. Senate candidate Greg Ganske and gubernatorial candidate Doug Gross are within low single digits of their Democratic rivals, Tom Harkin and Tom Vilsack, who hover around a weak 50 percent. Darn, I'm good! :-p Did I write this?
Seriously, that 22-point lead for Harkin in that latest SurveyUSA poll stunk to high Heaven. And obviously the POTUS and VPOTUS would not be trekking to Iowa if the races weren't competitive. [fingers crossed]

A sleeper is right!!! It looks like Nussle and King are goingh to bring in the Numbers to put Gross and Ganske over the top. I don't thin the Governor is as popular as he thinks he is. C'mon Iowa win it for Salier, heck, let's win one for the Gipper!!!!!

Just heard on Brit Hume that the GOP tracking polls now show it dead even in MN between Coleman and Mondale. And Mondale just apologized for the spectacle of a "memorial" service. He would NOT have done that unless his polls showed the same trend.
And I read today in, I think, the Wash Times that Coleman's camp and/or the state GOP took in about $150K in grass roots donations in the few hours following the spectacle. The Dems really screwed up here. [grin]

Democratic strategists say they are having to put extra money into hiring workers to go back out and pick up ballots that haven't been returned. Pick up ballots that haven't been returned!?! I thought one had to return absentee ballots via US Mail. Any absentee ballot touched by a 'Rat strategist should be regarded as having been tampered with and be destroyed.

Cool. Also, Mondale getting Welstone fvotes can't be taken as a given. Wellstone was a hard lefty and many of his fans were probably as disgusted as us with the farce of a "memorial". Also, the absentee ruling where all Rats are facing a do over is not going to help them. Meanwhile, the GOPers are fired up, p*ssed and working their butts off. I live in California and got a call from the MN GOP for $$ to help with poll watching in MN. The Rats overplayed their hand and it is wonderful to see. Go Coleman Go....

I live in California and got a call from the MN GOP for $$ to help with poll watching in MN. Wow! That tells me the Minnesotans have PLENTY of help with the phone banks.
