LAW FIRM CHANGE (At Fla Lib McBride's Ex-Law Firm (Governor Bush's rival)
The St. Petersburg Times | September 20, 2002 | Business Today Section

LAW FIRM CHANGE:

Labor and employment lawyer John E. Phillips has been named executive partner of Holland & Knight's Tampa office. He replaces real estate and land use attorney Jim Shimberg. Spokeswoman Karen Schoening said such leadership changes are common at the law firm.

Executive partners help set local business plans, appear at civic and charitable events and sit on firmwide committees.

Gee, that was Bill McBride's job, executive partner at H & K. It looks to me like he went to breakfast, lunch and dinner, appeared at events and SAT ON THINGS.

If you ask me, we have Free Republic members who've done far more than this guy who wants to be Florida's governor when we have an excellent one already. Would you hire a guy with an embellished Bio and whose position was characterized in the newspaper as it was in today's St. Pete Times? I wouldn't hire him to drag my business down.

Oh, and what about all the layoffs at Holland & Knight? He did that too in addition to being a figurehead. Is it any wonder he doesn't like to talk about his job at Holland & Knight? What do you think?

I'm guessing the Tampa Bay Business Journal on-line has a similar press release in this week's edition. If you haven't bookmarked www.sptimes.com or the Tampa Bay Business Journal yet, YOU SHOULD DO SO. Governor Bush is a subscriber and writes letters to the editor of the St. Pete Times and did so this morning. I'm sure someone here at FR will be interested in that letter by Governor Bush. It's about "merit pay for teachers". Fregards, FV

Fla/USA Ping. Oh, and McBride has been a dem fundraiser FOR YEARS. His finance man in his campaign is Terry MacAuliffe's father-in-law. That's why HRC, Algor and Joe Lieberman are on the way. But, so is Hurricane Isadore. Hopefully, she'll just bring us lots of rain, just enough rain to dampen this guy's flatbed truck tour. LOL

For your own health and well being, please don't let polls scare you too much. As we all know, the media is just a tool that largely functions as a wing of the democratic party.

If we relied on the media, we wouldn't have known that Governor Bush was attending his own tailgate party at the Gator-Canes football game. However, we saw that Janet and McLawyer were at the game AD NAUSEUM (WFLA Ch. 8 NBC affiliate).

Yes. Thank God for the resources they don't control, the largest being the Internet. And the leftmedia continues to puzzle over why it's market share continues to drop. Perhaps it's because a large number of people don't like being lied to. Ya think?

We need to bombard media with this info. It's not being reported around too much.

The media, specifically being directed out of Orlando, is withholding this information IMO. Suggestions on bombarding the media to get this out? Who and where? I'll help but we need names.

On a brighter note, Bay News 9 was saying how bad things looked for Governor Bush at 9:00 am yesterday. I called them and asked Bay News 9 (time warner-aol) to be more {fair and balanced). By 9:00 pm, Al Reuchel was giving polling data on the governor's race and guess what, "GOVERNOR BUSH HAS EXCELLENT POLL NUMBERS". Reuchel's words. Was it my call? Probably not. Did other people call and complain too? Maybe.

When the media gets it wrong or goes op-ed instead of reporting the news, WE MUST CALL THEM. PHONE CALLS WORK BETTER THAN EMAILS IMO.

What media will help us and let's get this out to them. We know the liberal rags don't want Floridians to connect MacAuliffe to McBride. I wonder what MacAuliffe's favorables are - He disgusts me.

St. Pete Times, God luv 'em. They have such good reporters which allows me to read between the lines. I can't tell you how many times I've cancelled my subscription just to give me an opportunity to tell them what they did wrong.

Then I re-up until they MOLEST THE TRUTH again. I have a love-hate relationship with www.sptimes.com.

Actually, McBride was Managing Partner. Each office has an executive partner that reports to the Managing Partner. H&K's current Managing Partner is Robert R. Feagin III

I am praying for Jeb. The good Lord has a way of working in situations that we are not aware of. We all need to pray for Jeb and for our President. Regarding McBride's ties to McAuliffe, why don't Florida freepers invite people from all over the country to come down and demonstrate for Jeb, holding signs showing the ties and showing their deep support for Jeb. It sure helped in 2000!

Lol! Were you looking for this? It's a fine response to that criminal negligent (imho) "class size" amendment:

On smaller classrooms-
Governor Bush announced the first in a series of education plans today.
Excerpt from RPOF email:
Governor Bush proposes bonding the growth in the state's sales tax portion of the Communication Services Tax (CST) revenue over the next five years to provide $2.8 billion in school construction and renovation funds for Florida's 67 local school districts. Through the selling of bonds, and
by taking advantage of the current low interest rates, Florida will receive immediate funds to begin building schools while guaranteeing payment of the original investment plus interest to the entity purchasing the bonds by a specified future date. "There isn't an educator in Florida who doesn't want smaller classes, but the Coalition to Reduce Class Size's initiative will do more harm
than good. The initiative would take away any flexibility I have as a principal or my teachers have to teach our students," said Anna Diaz, principal, University High School in Orlando.
The Coalition to Reduce Class Size is a McBride thing and would indicate a tax increase.

Thanks for the info on the new initiative by Governor Bush. I'm so looking forward to the debates, the first one is next week. Everyone needs to check their listings and
c-span. We'll see who's nervous, Mr. McBribe.

Hi, everybody, I actually don't think he went to court. I actually believe that his wife got him the job in the first place because he doesn't seem capable IMO to pass the stringent interviews at law offices. Been there, done that.

Basically, he was in charge of merging with smaller law firms around the country and as I mentioned, I never saw the guy in 94, 95 or 96 even though I worked there quite often.

They merged with firms that handled different specialities but I am just as curious regarding how his wife, Ms. Sink made 5 or 6 million at Bank of America.

Holland & Knight are all over the place. They're paying for all the mergers today as their profits head downward. There's some Art Andersen stuff too. He's an eager beaver when it comes to merges.

And his wife, well, in Florida, we can speculate all day long about who the biggest depositors in Florida banks are. It's definitely not John Q. Public. Finally, did his law firm or the bank benefit from having a relationship with each other? He raises a lot of concerns about conflicts of interest and so does his running mate, Rossin.

H & K has lots of lobbying ties in D.C. where one of their offices is located.

I wish we could find some investigative reporters at Worldnetdaily or Newsmax to check out McBride and his wife Ms. Sink. Newsmax was trying to pitch a book about Reno - bad blunder on their part. I asked them to investigate McBride - I'd buy that book! LOL

In case you didn't know, Charlie Crist, Republican AG candidate is a Greek-American and dem Dyer is always trying to make Crist's skin color a campaign issue. Once again, there's a double standard on political correctness. I don't find the humor in that and it keeps the candidates from discussing the serious issues for the state's top cop.

I taped a Tiger Bay Club luncheon where both candidates spoke. Dyer went ugly on Crist and Crist stayed composed and diplomatic. He wanted to address the personal attacks on his skin color/tan. He said "I'm proud to be a Greek-American."

Further, Dyer has less qualifications than Crist which is why Dyer had to look back into Crist's bar exam records to find something to attack Charlie with. Crist has Executive Branch experience in Education and as head of the DBPR, trial lawyer experience, consumer advocacy experience, Supreme Crt of Fla. experience, he was the attorney for the Minor League Baseball Organization in Tampa Bay. I'll be doing a meet Charlie Crist thread shortly. Until then, anyone can check him out at www.charliecrist.com.

The dems always get very nasty with the front runner. I hope these two debate before the election. There's only one clear choice. STAY WITH THE BUSH TEAM: JEB BUSH, CHARLIE CRIST, AND CHARLES BRONSON FOR AGRICULTURAL COMMISSIONER.
