Swing-district Republican sounds alarm over GOP’s affordability agenda: ‘Doing nothing is not an option’
CNN ^ | 12/7/25 | Alison Main

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, one of a handful of House Republicans who won in a district that then-Vice President Kamala Harris carried last fall, has a stark message for his party as the deadline to extend expiring health care subsidies and the midterm elections approach.

…The swing-district Republican said even some of his more conservative colleagues have expressed an interest in his effort to reach a compromise on the ACA subsidies.

“Affordability is such a crisis in this country right now,” he said, explaining that for low- and middle-income constituents, “a significant increase in their premiums is not an option.”

Combating rising costs will be “the issue” of the 2026 elections, Fitzpatrick predicts. He highlighted Trump’s election to a second term and Democrat Zohran Mamdani’s recent victory in the New York City mayoral race as examples of what happens when voters are motivated by cost-of-living concerns.

Though the president called affordability a “hoax” last week, as Democrats begin to zero in on the message, Fitzpatrick disagrees: “Believe me. I hear it every day back home. It’s real.”

CNN never talked about affordability during the inflationary Biden years.

Though the president called affordability a “hoax” last week,

Surely he didn't because it was a key reason he got elected. And the Somalicorruptocrach just illustrates how tax payer dollars being used to raise costs for Americans as well as keep their taxes high. And Bessent has been quite public about Trump efforts to improve affordability.

So my choice is CNN making shit up again for $1 Trillion.

“Though the president called affordability a “hoax” last week”

Correct.
Biden gave us 40 year high inflation rates.
Trump has sent gas prices crashing down in next to no time.
This “affordability” crap is merely the latest hoax from the Democrats getting pushed by fake news media.
You can’t beat Trump with that nonsense.

“Surely he didn't because it was a key reason he got elected.”

Number 1 reason Trump got elected was illegal immigration and serious crimes being committed by illegals.
“Affordability” ranked pretty low.

OK, but “doing something” requires ending the filibuster.

“Though the president called affordability a “hoax” last week”

If the above is true it is unfortunate that Trump dismissed real concerns about affordability by voters.

Unfortunately, “Doing Something” is what got us to this deplorable situation.

In a great many situations, doing nothing is the preferable option by governments.

Article is correct. GOP are experts at sitting on their asses when they win. Democrats play to win. GOP plays to attend cocktail parties and internal bitching. We have all seen it before.

Biden merely carried out the prior admin policy of throwing trillions of dollars into the air to solve all the problems. At some point, the admin has to act like they are responsible and run of fixing problems, as of now its all what about-ism.

Just because legacy media doesn’t talk about something doesn’t mean voters don’t have the concern. They just thought President Trump’s policies would focus more on them personally than the national debt. I blame the GOP congress for not getting a handle on this. They’ve been sitting on their hands because they’re getting paid to do so by the insurance industry. They don’t care about losing to the Democrats, half of them think just like the Democrats where healthcare and illegals are concerned. It’s disgusting.

“No...the filibuster gives the option to BOTH parties...keep it...”

You must have forgotten that the democrats tried to get rid of the filibuster last term, but two democrats stopped it. Those two democrats are no longer senators. The democrats will get rid of the filibuster the first day if they ever get back control the Senate and they will smirk at the stupidity of the Republicans for not doing it.

Healthcare, Insurance and College is all unaffordable because liberals broke them with their commie policies.

Want to make them all affordable again, try the free market.

Let’s make something more affordable.

Who should take the income hit?

The business owner?
The shareholders?
The workers?
The managers?
The landlord?
The bank’s shareholders?
The bank’s depositors?
The mortgage company’s owners?
The mortgage security holders?
The government?

Who should take the capital hit?
The university’s endowment?
The homeowners?
The shareholders?
The FDIC?
