“Mr. Trump has promised working-class tax cuts and protection for working-class social insurance, such as Medicaid,” Hawley wrote. “But now a noisy contingent of corporatist Republicans — call it the party’s Wall Street wing — is urging Congress to ignore all that and get back to the old-time religion: corporate giveaways, preferences for capital and deep cuts to social insurance.”
Hawley has consistently spoken up about his opposition to the House plan to use Medicaid cuts to pay for the party-line megabill. The House Energy and Commerce Committee has been charged with finding at least $880 billion in federal spending cuts over the next decade.
Missouri is one of several red states that expanded Medicaid. Despite his longtime opposition to ObamaCare, Hawley has made it clear he will protect access to Medicaid in his state and will not support legislation that would lead to benefit cuts for Missourians.

That’s an element of America First.
We take care of our own before we spend billions and trillions overseas. And before we export jobs, and before importing labor. Because America First is not just a slogan.
Republican/Conservative Orthodoxy has a real hard time with this. It’s because they put following the orthodoxy above what’s good for Americans.
They’ll come along.
Conservatism without Nationalism is like Faith without Works.
Typical low IQ Arkansan. Bet you live in Pine Bluff.
Medicaid is WELFARE
“Medicaid is supposed to help the truly needy, not lazy black bucks zoned out on drugs and video games, not fat illegal waddling mamacitas and her squad of illegal shoats. “
Your characterizations aside, there are rules and law in place today to prevent what irks you.
They are not enforced by the states that administer the program. Ostensibly that can be fixed.
NYS cost shares Medicaid with counties, Hawley.
Wanna come here and say that?
States regulate housing, doctors, physician assistants and hospitals.
The federal government shouldn’t pay for stuff states regulate.
Per Fedzilla...
Medicaid provides health coverage to 7.2 million low-income seniors who are also enrolled in Medicare.
Are you as ticked about that, at least in the case of the seniors who worked the system in order to have taxpayers pay for their care.
Hawley (and all congresscritters) should focus on the waste, fraud, abuse in HHS.
Deloitte is the poster child right now. Deloitte’s IES Integrated Eligibility System used by 25 states has an EMPI Enterprise Master Person Index that is poorly designed and defective. IES was designed to respond to Obama’s poorly thought out expansion (from an IT perspective). Those IES defects were pointed out by many over 10 years ago but ignored by Deloitte.
Just 2 examples of Deloitte Master Person defects:
Deloitte EMPI shows millions of dead as active and eligible to receive Medicaid. (The dead are not limited to voting.)
Deloitte EMPI shows millions of DUPS...The same person with 2 or more Medicaid (and WIC, EBT, TANF, Sec8) accounts. Example: One as Sue Smith, A 2d as Susan Smith, a 3d as Sue Jones-Smith. Most often this is not Sue trying to double dip. This is Deloitte (and other IT contractors) billing contract services by “Capitation”...getting paid for each person in the database, including DUPS in the database.
Of course, there are some cases where the Hospital or Doctor is charging to provide the same service to both Sue and Susan. Most of this double-billing/duplicate payments is small...under $1,000. But occasionally it in the millions of dollars paid for DUPS.
Deloitte has other waste, fraud abuse. Dead and DUPS are just the easiest to explain.

Finally a comment with some basis in reality.
its called a special needs plan, or called medi-medi, medicare pays first Medicaid pays the 20% medicare does not pay..
as for the cuts in Medicaid goes.. well BJ clinton signed a work for welfare bill in 1994, and that worked well.. maybe try that one again. but all the illegals do not needs taxpayers to be paying for them..
Spot on. We can no longer bear that financial burden.
For American citizens, I agree with him...
For 40 million disease-ridden migrant invaders, I totally disagree with him...
Why have all you people bought into Democratic Party propaganda? The medicaid “cuts” Hawley is talking about are the “temporary” measures for covid, and the medicaid billions given away to foreign invaders, laughably called immigrants!
It doesn’t matter what the truth is unfortunately, what matters is the kitchen table and how voters interpret their bills and receipts in real time — health care costs ate no joke.
Republicans so far do not have a strong track record when it comes to solving healthcare woes, which leaves Democrats the window to exacerbate the system time and time again.
Listen up EVERYBODY!
I have more colored ribbons on my chest than everyone else, practically combined. See this one? SAVE THE EAST Bolivian COCKROACH!
Thanks Josh.
Rush Limbaugh from the grave.
What’s “morally wrong” is freeloading maggots from below the border coming to America to force the gringos to pay their medical bills. Now that’s “morally wrong.”
