Much discussion is being made these days over who Trump should pick as his vice presidential candidate.
But we're not here to discuss that. We are here today to discuss the last good and effective vice president. Or maybe talk about the veeps that have done great harm and damage to our nation. Especially those individuals that have gone on to become president.
Here in the last 70 years or so is the list of Vice Presidents. Which were good, bad or indifferent?
Kamala Harris
Mike Pence
Joe Biden
Dick Cheney
Al Gore
Dan Quayle
George HW Bush
Walter Mondale
Nelson Rockefeller
Gerald Ford
Spiro Agnew
Hubert Humphrey
Lyndon Johnson
Richard Nixon
Yes
All of them have been fairly irrelevant to varying degrees. That is the nature of that job.
I always thought vice presidents were insurance policies. Kamala sure is.
Your ratings are pretty good; although I’d give Harris a 5 and Agnew a 4.
“I was a pre-teen at the time, but I remember the media hated Spiro Agnew. That’s always a good sign. They also hated Dan Quayle.”
That’s because both told the media to go perform a bizzare biological feat with their heads.

Cheney was the president. Bush was the biden.
No one else but Nelse...
Harris is stupid that’s for sure. But she’s not dangerous.
Agnew was a grifter that’s for sure but he didn’t screw over the country like Biden did.
Exactly. Usually the President sends the VP to events that he's too busy to attend.
Being a grifter is a Maryland politician tradition!
“Harris is stupid that’s for sure. But she’s not dangerous.”
I think she is both.
“Agnew was a grifter that’s for sure but he didn’t screw over the country like Biden did.”
That’s why Biden is a 5 and I gave Agnew a 4.
“Being a grifter is a Maryland politician tradition!”
No kidding.
Cheney didn’t influence Bush into anything. He was simply reinforcing the party line of the establishment GOP.
Obama was probably a flaming homosexual himself — and didn’t need a retarded dementia patient to convince him that “same-sex marriage” was a good idea.
Pence was the only VP whose actions were meaningful in any way (and I think the criticism of him is way overblown) … and in that case he was carrying out one of the only formal responsibilities he had as President of the Senate.
Yes but we were heading into that direction anyway. Our society was changing at that time. FWIW, one thing I would have changed is that only the government can recognize a civil union between partner A and partner B. Only churches can recognize a marriage.
Just my two cents.
“Harry Truman was the last decent VP.”
He only served as VP less than 12 weeks.
I agree with your statement about EPA. It was a political move, yes a dumb one. Regarding China, it was a chess move that helped collapse the USSR. A brilliant move in the context of the times. However, successor administrations kept playing the same move with little regard for its consequences. Of course, they were egged on by large corporations that thought they could deeply cut labor expenses loss of IP be damned; again not thinking about the long term consequences for themselves or the nation. Next quarter bottom line was all that mattered!

Truman was VP less than 3 months. It may have been divine intervention that the DNC dumped the commie Henry WWallace in 1954
To upset lot of people, I vote for Mike Pence!
He was excellent in support of pres Trump unto the very end.
The Jan 6 was not his fault! He really could not do anything then.
LBJ and HW were the most impatient.
