West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin said Tuesday morning that "it would be much easier" to be a Republican but he's not planning to switch political parties at this time.
Manchin said people have approached him "every day" about changing his political party.
"Do you think by having a D or an I or an R is going to change who I am? I don't think the R's would be any more happier with me than D's are right now," Manchin said during an Economic Club event in Washington, D.C. "I mean that's about as blunt as I can put it so I don’t know where in the hell I belong."
Manchin said he never received support from the far left or far right in his career.
Talk of Manchin, a moderate Democrat in a Red-leaning state and an increasingly progressive-mined party, switching parties reigniated last week after a news report stating he had recently discussed such a move.
Ah, you'd fit in really well in the Romney/Collins/Graham/Murkowski wing, Joe.
He would give the 🐢 control of the Senate again.
“I don’t think the R’s would be any more happier with me than D’s are right now,” Manchin says
Fact is, I see the parties as a uniparty with the two side simply playing “good cop, bad cop” with us. Which one you see as the good cop depends on which one gives your views lip service.
And don’t kid yourself. All it is is lip service. It’s how the most liberal R party members like McCain and Romney can become their party’s presidential nominee while the Paul family (rand and ron) are considered party outliers when, in fact, they most embrace the constitutional values Americans hold dear.
Go independent, and caucus with the Rs.
If it forces one of the RINOs to caucus with the D’s, we know who to primary.
He’s got that right, nobody respects nor trusts a turncoat.
Meet the new boss.
Same as the old boss...................
He just wants his butt sniffed by the most interests.
Pretty simple, Joe . . . If you are for capitalism and the well-being of America, there is no way in hell you can be a good Rat.
Most likely, Joe Manchin would not become a full-on Republican, but being a Democrat, identified more and more with the Democrat-Socialist faction, is not tolerable much longer.
Look for some “Independent” label to be put out there.
They would if Chuck were no longer Majority Leader.
They would if Chuck were no longer Majority Leader.
“Go independent, and caucus with the Rs.”
It wouldn’t be unheard of to do that.
In 2020, two blue collar Dem state senators from the Iron Range (in northeast Minnesota) announced they were leaving the Dem caucus and becoming Independents. They were both Trump supporters and their constituencies voted for Trump as well.
They don’t caucus with the GOP state senate but vote with them on a number of matters - including organizing the Senate.
stay right there joe, and agitate from within.
Red, he’s a Democrat...
If Manchin, you are half way between the Democrats and the Republicans, that still puts you a leftist.
Chinless Mousechin.
Manchin wants to run for president. He in the past (maybe still does !) thinks his best path is as a Rat. I don’t see how he can think that its a delusion that he has a shot at it anyway as a Rat or anything else.
He should pull a James Jeffords (used to be a senator from Vermont, had Bernie’s current seat!) and go indenpendent but caucus with the GOP.
Anyway let’s see if his Prez dream dies and he makes a move.
I think that’s how a lot of us feel in this country right now with politics, the left is too spendy with unrealistic expectations but the right has gone full Trump/Q/MTGreen conspiracy nonsense and I can’t do either
Looking to see which party’s leaders/donors will give him the most attractive deal.
Basically, he’s for sale. Buy now!
