Art Acevedo, the police chief of the Houston Police Department (HPD), is calling on officers with the Austin Police Department unhappy over the recent budget cuts to come and work for him.
The Austin City Council last week unanimously approved to slash about $150 million from its police department’s funding, or nearly a third of the department’s annual budget.
“People of Houston, they don’t want less policing, they want better policing and well-trained police officers,” Chief Acevedo said.
The HPD welcomed 44 new officers to the force during a Cadet Class #245 graduation ceremony Monday, Fox 26 Houston reported.

Acevedo was police chief in Austin before coming to Houston. During that time, he had acrimonious relations with the police union.
Let’s say you worked at McDonald’s and your boss, who treated you like crap, gets reassigned to another McDonald’s a longer drive away. If that boss came to you and said “Hey, I have some openings at my new place. Come work for me.”, would you go? I guess some would just to have a job but I don’t think the offer will be as warmly received as Artie thinks.
Houston is one of the three main progressive shitholes in Texas .... stay away from Austin and Dallas areas. Try smaller communities and sheriff departments.
Houston is a frickin’ Sanctuary City! Why in the hell would they want to come here?!
There is one catch. The rank and file officers in Austin were not to impressed by Acevedo when he was chief there.

The Harris County DA, Kim Ogg, is next to useless. I had a neighbor who was a junior prosecutor, a bit liberal, but still fired since she did not appear to go along Ogg’s personal agendas. A lot of good prosecutors were fired, including my friend Bert Graham, former assistant DA.

Fort Worth, Texas had less BLM crap because they had a sales tax specifically for police funding up for a renewal vote. AKA, there was a ballot initiative BLM could fight that was tied directly to their cause. (And Fort Worth and Arlington police shut down looting fast.)
The Fort Worth area sales tax was maintained rather than rolled back.
In contrast, Dallas has leadership that lets them block highways and occasionally loot but gets mad when you hurt officers. Partially because five of the Dallas police were killed by BLM a couple of years ago.
Yeah, come on down if you want a chief that’s a camera whore, marched with the bunch during the Floyd fiasco, did gang signs, knelt, supported BLM......what a clown
