Nervous managers of the scheduled 2020 presidential debates are shuffling the logistics and locations to deal with the threat of the coronavirus. But here’s a better idea: Scrap them altogether. And not for health reasons.
The debates have never made sense as a test for presidential leadership. In fact, one could argue that they reward precisely the opposite of what we want in a president. When we were serious about the presidency, we wanted intelligence, thoughtfulness, knowledge, empathy and, to be sure, likability. It should also go without saying, dignity.
Yet the debates play an outsize role in campaigns and weigh more heavily on the verdict than their true value deserves.

NY Times propaganda is merely confirming that the Democrat establishment is now certain Joe Biden is a disaster and that his cognitive abilities are declining fast. Joe Lockhart, Clinton’s former press secretary, said today that Biden should not agree to debate Trump because “Trump lies.”
this is now DNC policy - no debates with Trump!
Trump should announce that he will be at the debate venue on the date specified and if Basementman wants to debate he should meet him there. If Basementman doesn’t show, Trump should immediately release a new ad asking the American people if someone is too cowardly to debate will he be strong enough to stand up to the Chinese Communists, the Russians, the Iranians, etc?
This is at least the 3rd column I’ve seen saying that Basementman shouldn’t debate. He’s all too willing to sit in his basement and hide out, making a quick appearance to talk to 5 or 6 handpicked people then disappear back into his basement.

But they won’t. By and large the audience for debates are people who have decided. Everybody thinks their guy was great. The other guy sucked. And they don’t understand how anybody could see otherwise.
