Jeromy Brown, a 46-year-old teacher in Iowa, considers President Trump a white supremacist.
"If the shoe fits, then say it, and the shoe fits him," Brown said, while waiting in a "selfie line" at an Elizabeth Warren rally in August. "Why should he be excused from that label?"
Brown, like many white liberal voters, appreciates that some Democratic presidential candidates have begun explicitly referring to Trump as a white supremacist. His top choice, Warren, told The NPR Politics Podcast in August that "when the white supremacists call Donald Trump one of their own, I tend to believe them."
But she's not alone in using such strong and direct language. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has repeatedly referred to Trump as a "racist" on the campaign trail. And former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke insists that tackling white supremacy should be the No. 1 law enforcement priority in the country.

There isn’t a single left-right axis. It is more of a political square. Liberal to conservative in terms of valuing tradition and what historically works versus “new is better, different is better”.
The other is libertarian versus authoritarian. Libertarians are overwhelmingly socially liberal, but they don’t believe in the top down oppression to impose their ideal like liberals do. I know a few Christian libertarians, but their worldview is more like “everyone to your enclave, but let’s all tolerate each others’ enclaves so we can all live in peace”.
Most liberals subscribe to the “natural slave” model - 10% enlightened elites telling the other 90% idiots/slaves what to do. And most of them expect to be the elites telling others how to live or comfortable enforcers and chekists for those in power.
Yeah, I get all that and mostly agree with it. The irony of course is that conservatives, like libertarians, tend to support a free market system which is the ultimate generator of novelty and innovation. Meanwhile liberals self report as open to novelty but suddenly becomes quite closed when it comes to economics — the largest sphere of human action — preferring the risk averse socialist model with its promise of guaranteed outcomes through government supervision. The only area where liberals are anything other than frightened control freaks is sexuality. There they are basically libertines — except they retain their authoritarian flavor by seeking to force everyone to participate in their various novelties/stupidities through the law.
Haidt found a stark difference in the definition of “fair” between groups. For liberals, fair is everyone getting the same thing. For conservatives, fair was proportional - if I work twice as hard, I should get twice as much money.
Thank you for that reply. I am most familiar with how Hitler and the Nazis came to power, but not so knowledgeable about how other socialist tyrants took control.
