HOUSTON — It wasn’t your typical Trump campaign rally.
Instead of red Make America Great Again hats, there were turbans and Islamic caps. Women in traditional Indian garb danced to bhangra drums. And tens of thousands of cheering Indian Americans chanted “USA!” and snapped photos.
President Donald Trump appeared at a cavernous football stadium on Sunday alongside Narendra Modi, the popular prime minister of India, who attracted a crowd of 50,000 from across the U.S. to what was touted as the largest event in the country for a leader of a foreign nation.
“You have never had a better friend as president than President Donald Trump,” Trump said as the crowd roared with approval. “We thank you. We love you. I want you to know my administration is fighting for you each and every day.”
Trump is hoping to appeal to Indian American voters, a growing political force in the U.S., with his business-friendly agenda — especially the 2017 tax cuts — as well as his tough talk on terrorism and his decision to show up at the rally even though the ethnic group has generally backed Democrats.
“It’s giving a message to the Indian community that Trump is a big friend of India,” said Rupesh Srivastava, a Michigan businessman and founding member of the Republican Hindu Coalition. “That message will definitely motivate people.”

Politicians “kowtow” to every group that has voters in it. Trump claims to be pro-gay, did you know that? There are lesbians and gays that vote for Trump, albeit silently. Should Trump spurn Italian-Americans because of the mafia? Should he spurn German-Americans because of Hitler? Thank goodness you’re not one of his political advisors.

BTW Trump pushing 26% with blacks, 40% with Hispanics ad shown both with Baris’s polling and Parscale’s surveys. I think he’ll end up with 12% black vote and 38% Hispanics. But I also think you have another 3-5% of each not vote.
That will effectively transfer electoral power within minorities to Trump.

Being the cynic that I am, and I completely support President Trump, there is a bill allowing 300K Indians in on H1B visas; it’s already passed the House with 140 repubics voting for it (notice there was virtually no publicity on this) and is scheduled to be voted on by the Senate on Thursday. So...was this just to dupe us...again? wtf? Was this to show how wonderful they are so we’ll be ok with potus signing the bill?
btw, the bill is being sponsored by Mike Lee and Kamala Harris. As far as I’m concerned, we’re on our own. It remains to be seen if Trump vetoes it or signs it.

I am a “crawl over broken glass to vote for Trump” supporter who was on board long before FR was...and I have have always had positive dealing with Indians. However, this bill is a travesty.
I am not certain that Trump will veto SB 386...He seems to have a blind spot with H-1B Visas with India...and China too for that matter—has this idea they are all “smart people” yet many H-1B Visa holders have replaced US workers—US workers who ended up having to train the foreign workers...So how much smarter than US citizens can they be???
I am recommending that people call both Trump and their Senators—let them hear from us that we don’t want SB 386 to pass. Bill benefits Mike Lee and Kamala, Utah, and west coast tech titans; however, US workers? Not so much!...).
Not that Senators will listen, but hoping Trump will see there is resistance to this and veto it...It is not our responsibility to support the India middle class.
BTW, another scary component of this bill is the creep of H-1B visas into other fields beyond IT...such as nursing and accounting. Before long, no career will be safe.

I think the strategy is to use India as the “New China” and cripple the ChiComs, will it work? That remains to be seen.

Any rally held just for < insert skin color or ethnic group name here > is plan racist and sends the wrong signal.
