President Donald Trump is expected to headline his largest rally yet on Sunday when he appears in Houston in an effort to appeal to a growing political force in the United States: Indian Americans.
Trump will speak to an expected crowd of 50,000, mostly Indian Americans, who are flocking to the most diverse city in the nation to catch a glimpse of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at what is being touted as the largest event in the U.S. for a leader of foreign country.
He hopes to peel off some Indian American voters who could be attracted to his business friendly agenda, especially the 2017 tax cuts, his tough talk on terrorism and his decision to show up at the rally even though the ethnic group has generally backed Democrats.
Its giving a message to the Indian community that Trump is a big friend of India, said Rupesh Srivastava, a Michigan businessman and founding member of the Republican Hindu Coalition. That message will definitely motivate people.
Republicans have been trying for years to make inroads with Indian Americans, one of the fastest growing ethnic groups in the United States, who register and vote at high rates.

“You can’t go into a convenience store without a slight Indian accent”, Joe Biden. That too could come back to bite old Joe.
How MAGA? What happened to that?
CNN breaking:
TRUMP discriminates against hispanics and blacks.
So when he signs the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act he woll lose 10x the votes of displaced IT workers.
First you assume that the IT workers are Republican, I don’t know if they are or not.
There are few elections when the different vision for America has been so clear. On one issue if the President does on thing you don’t like, you will vote for a Democrat or stay home (which is a vote for a Democrat).
This is why I refuse to be a ONE ISSUE VOTER. Over the years I have observed politicians (from both parties) pander to one issue voters, telling them exactly what they want to hear and never meaning it. I would rather judge a politician on their action, not their words.
Between President Trump and the Democrats, his vision for America closely aligns with mine. That does not mean I agree on everything (I doubt anyone in the world shares the same views I have 100%) but for the most part I like what he is doing.
Sometimes you have to step back a bit to see what is really going on. I don’t know, but I would guess President Trump is playing world politics with all this. America can not go it alone in the world. Sometimes you need to provide a reason for another nation to not be neutral or an enemy.
I will leave it to the experts to read the tea leaves.
At least that is my opinion for what ever it is worth.
Losing your job is a pretty big issue.
First you assume that the IT workers are Republican
I know a lot of newly minted Indian citizens they all hate Republicans. They look at Republicans as the new British. They are all mini Ghandis.
This is how yo lose blue collar and white collar voters. They will stay home.
Fixed it.
Yeah that's the problem. He's not the President of the world.
Yep India was / is Socialist
“Jarvanka?”
Jarad has been working on immigration with the COC.
about 5 million indian americans in usa and and about 5 million american indians in the usa.
I don’t think liawatha will get many american indian votes
You mean keeping the Cheap Labor Express moving onward while suppressing wages and virtue signalling how un-racist we are? Yeah, I get it.
I wish Steve Bannon was still in the WH.
Yeah that’s the problem. He’s not the President of the world.

My just how simple can you be.
Do you really believe that the United States can be 100% totally isolated from the world?
The President would not be able to look after the best interest of the United States without dealing with other nations.
I admit I don’t know what the US gains by any deals with India but so far the President has shown he wants what is best for the US.
Some votes you don’t need. Trump needs to realize that (1) India is not an ally, (2) They still do not accept back deportees, (3) They are taking American jobs through off-shoring and, worse, through H1B and related visas and chain migration. Trump should instead be challenging India to take back it’s citizens, to end H1B and related visa scams to instead return these jobs to Americans. What good is it to focus on STEM, then undercut our American youth by swamping the job market with Indians? Tell Modi to take his people home!!!
And Trump should ask Modi to accept Jared and Ivanka. Send them to India and get them out and far from the White House. We need people around Trump that believe in America First, believe is Buy American, AND believe in HIRE AMERICAN. Ivanka and Jared do not.
So not kowtowing to the K Street India Lobby is isolationist? Really?
“Indians WHO ALL VOTE DEMOCRAT AND WILL NEVER CHANGE.”
Au contraire, mon frere.
Dont put the dots all together. Lie the supposed the “Hispanic” vote block, Indians are very diverse. First Gen low caste go all in for Dems. Second gen, smart folks roll MAGA.
Once Americanized, the smart folks make money and HATE leeches of all stripes. Caste and Regional baggage make first gens vote one way, but given time, productive Americans of Indian descent are on our side.
And lots are Christian too.
“I would guess President Trump is playing world politics with all this.”
India is really the only possible replacement for China in several ways. They are the second biggest producer of Ph.D.s in the world, after the USA, as a source of specialty human capital. They are on track to pass the population of China, as a market (e.g. oil and gas). They are a democracy.
They have a long running border dispute with China, and China is the main sponsor of their main rival Pakistan. India, especially Modi, is really against jihadi terrorism.
Just this week, India dropped tax rates for investors, and especially lower for manufacturers. So clearly, we are aligned and coordinating on many aspects of our relationship. Kind of natural allies.
I know a lot and work with a lot of Indians. Indians I know are very political and talk about politics a lot. They are ALL Democrats. ALL OF THEM.
