Republicans to scrap primaries and caucuses as Trump challengers cry foul
The Politico ^ | September 6, 2019 | Alex Isenstadt

Four states are poised to cancel their 2020 GOP presidential primaries and caucuses, a move that would cut off oxygen to Donald Trump’s long-shot primary challengers.

Republican parties in South Carolina, Nevada, Arizona and Kansas are expected to finalize the cancellations in meetings this weekend, according to three GOP officials who are familiar with the plans.

The moves are the latest illustration of Trump’s takeover of the entire Republican Party apparatus. They underscore the extent to which his allies are determined to snuff out any potential nuisance en route to his renomination — or even to deny Republican critics a platform to embarrass him.

Trump advisers are quick to point out that parties of an incumbent president seeking reelection have a long history of canceling primaries and note it will save state parties money. But the president’s primary opponents, who have struggled to gain traction, are crying foul, calling it part of a broader effort to rig the contest in Trump’s favor.

So some 1% candidates want air time for a vanity challenge. Maybe they should run as democrats.

It’s pretty egotistical of the long shot candidates to expect the state organizations to spend $ and party members time to give them a vanity boost. It seems they are the ones trying to seize control rather than work for the good of the people.

primaries cost money, often paid by the individual parties

They should be supporting and urging this;

During the Trump roundup this should be done.Check the precinct list of registered voters where these people resided. If they’re on that list, Federal crime, charge them and those that enabled them to vote knowing they were illegals. If enough noise is made it should discourage illegals still here from voting. Besides determining how they got a drivers license show how much it’s costing taxpayers of that state. Also point out increased premiums on drivers insurance rates. As well as demonstrate how that areas ,local ,state and federal taxes are increased by diverting educational, medical, food and housing allocations to meet illegal’s needs at citizen expense.

It would be danged nice if Utah would shut down a Primary contest. With RINO Romney constantly running his mouth and Mike F. Lee running amok to bring in more HB1 foreigners to take tech jobs from our Grads, that’s quite more than enough from devout Utah, already. Geeeez.

These two are Susan Collins wannabees, each lighting candles for John F. McCain, by night and daytime too.

"But the president’s primary opponents, who have struggled to gain traction..."

Bill Weld has been known to struggle to walk in a straight line.

His popularity nationwide was shown by the results he and Gary Johnson got running in the 2016 general election. They got 4,489,233 total votes and 3.27% of the national vote according to Wikipedia. The largest percentage of those votes came from New Mexico where Johnson was once governor.

In Massachusetts, where Bill Weld was once governor, he and Johnson got 138,018 votes. Trump got 1,090,893 votes, about 900,000 less than Clinton. Massachusetts voters knew Clinton would win the state easily, so if Bill Weld had any support at all it would have resulted in higher vote totals for the Libertarians there. It didn't.

How is a guy who only got less than 4.2% of the Massachusetts vote in 2016 a serious challenge to President Trump in 2020?

Normally I’d oppose skipping primaries. But the gop-e is so vicious and full
Of lying losers right now that it makes good sense not to give them yet more forums to spew their sheit. It only poisons the public discourse. When and if there are any responsible honest candidates then yes reopen primaries.

The only reason they were running was to bad mouth the President.

I still have to be persuaded that “Joe Walsh” isn’t really Jeffrey Epstein hiding in plain sight under an assumed identity, perhaps a witness protection scheme by the FBI.

Were “Walsh” and Epstein ever seen at the same time in the same room together?

Disprove my suspicions and then we can talk about primaries
