Trump: The Best President I Didn’t Vote For

He has presided over two years of remarkable success. I didn’t vote for Donald Trump. I was afraid his obviously improvised campaign, imprecise explanations concerning how he planned to achieve his policy goals, and unsettling antics presaged a disastrous one-term presidency if he somehow managed to win. Unlike Bill Kristol and his ilk, however, I never considered voting for the execrable Hillary Clinton. So, knowing that Trump would win my deep red state anyway, I voted for what’s-his-name from New Mexico. Predictably, I was surprised when Trump won. But that was nothing compared to the astonishment I experienced when it dawned on me that he’s a remarkably effective President.

If you voted for someone other then Trump, you voted for Hillary to be President. And these are suppose to be the ‘smart’ guys!

Exactly! Why would we care what he said about anything again?

PDJT has done many good things in his presidency, but my highest marks go for his courage to do something about the horrendous trade deficits. We have lost as many as 40 million middle class manufacturing jobs due to trade deficits. You can not have a strong country without a strong and productive middle class engaged in manufacturing. Service industry ain't the path to long term greatness and prosperity.

Trump is the first President in my lifetime to make fighting illegal immigration and trade deficits the center of his agenda. Has he done as much on these issues as I would have liked to see? No. Has a caved to pressure from the GOP establishment and the media on these issues on some occasions? Yes. Nevertheless, the fact remains that at least he acknowledges that mass immigration and trade deficits are problems. Not even Ronald Reagan was on the right side of these issues (though he did apply a tariff on Japanese motorcycles).

yes...but that was his game plan in 2018 and it didn’t get us where we needed to be

I’m hopeful that the campaign can think of something new for 2020....because the 2016/2018 model is inadequate I fear in light of the numbers that the “resistance” generates
