Chris Matthews said President Trump's tax returns will be subpoenaed following the news that NBC News called the House for Democrats.

Later in the show, MSNBC host and legal analyst Ari Melber reported sources on the House Ways and Means Committee told him House Democrats would go to court to get the returns if the president doesn't hand them over after a subpoena.
"I spoke with the House Ways and Means Committee, breaking news. They do intend to request President Trump's tax returns. That's important because, as you know and as we have reported, this is something that does not require the Senate, it does not require even a full House vote. Under federal law, the chair of the Ways and Means Committee has the power to request anyone's tax returns. They believe that includes, flatly, the now. We are seeing the ramifications of Democrats on these committees," Melber said.

By refusing to release them, he makes conspiracy-minded leftists that there’s something nefarious in them, so they chase like lemmings.
So they waste time on this, annoy voters who don’t care about it, and if Trump is ever forced to release them after years of legal wrangling, it’ll go over like a lead balloon when there’s nothing in them anyone cares about.

I wonder if it would be worth it for Pres. Trump to look into if\how he could have his tax returns declared as “Presidential” and have them covered under the “Presidential Records Act”.
Pres. Trump could always “modify” E.O. 13489 to suit, as Obama did.

I feel like people are sick of this crap. I think the #metoo movement will fade out over the next year and 2020 will be good to our side. A lot of the never Trumpers are gone from Congress now, except for Mitt. It’s overall a decent scenario.
