Jeb Bush, who unsuccessfully ran for the GOP presidential nomination in 2016, told CNBC on Thursday he feels like a "fish out of water" in the current state of divisiveness in America.
Asked if he'd ever consider running for president again, the 66-year-old former Florida governor said: "I don't know. I love policy. I love my country. But this political environment right now, I'm not suited for. To be honest with you. I'm a fish out of water. I can't imagine having to attack someone to make yourself look strong."
In the "Squawk Box" interview, Bush said he did not vote for Donald Trump in the 2016 election and did not vote for Hillary Clinton.
However, Bush said, "I'm not a 'never Trumper.'" He said fellow Republicans should work with and "praise the president when he does good things," such as tax reform and deregulation.
"But when he goes beyond the line, or anybody else does for that matter, you have to stand on principle," he said.
"I don't blame Donald Trump for the cultural malaise that we're in. He's a byproduct of it," Bush said. "The cultural environment has changed."
The division in the U.S. is "dangerous," he argued....

Well, yes, but John Connally had only one in 1980.
Wish Reagan had did his homework on GHWB and Sandra Day O’Connor and Anthony Kennedy too.
Can’t imagine why Jeb bothers to comment on this at all, because no one ever ever ever wants to see him run ever ever ever.....
I can’t imagine having to attack someone to make yourself look strong.”
But you can imagine standing on tippy toes to make yourself look tall. Major MORON.
Jeb Bush said his share of horrible things about Trump, along with everyone else.
Everyone felt free to hurl the most horrible insults at Trump and they were never held to account - because usually the negative MSM meme was already in play - all his adversaries had to do is make a subtle reference -or damn Trump with faint praise.
Any condemnation of Trump was considered fair game - even incest - because the MSM had already laid the groundwork, and was always ready to provide context to make the most outlandish charges seem like commonly held views.
But it was never cool for Trump to fire back. The MSM labored day and night to spin any confrontations to appear as unprovoked attacks by Trump.
Thus Trump’s reputation for nasty attacks.
In reality, he rarely hit first.
Didn’t Mike Schmidt run his campaign?
“...I’d never do what Trump did to get elected...”
That means he’ll NEVER tell the truth or stick to his convictions...and THAT’S why he lost
I always thought of the Republican party as the party of morality, religion and law. I always thought of the Democrat party as the party of immorality and socialmarxistfascism which includes whatever laws they want to implement.
The Bush family are good people. They have always been. Problem is in today’s society, people like the Bushes cannot survive politically as they are trying to apply their personal and biblical beliefs to a job which Democrats turned into a “blood sport.”
Difference with Trump is he fought in the trenches both with and against Democrats. As one of the top business leaders in the world, Trump is dialed into global political and business climates. He had to be. He also uses process as a weapon.
Trump is the right person at the right time. In 2024, Pence will probably be President and will take care of the social issues and culture of the country. Trump is not geared for that, which is probably why the left are coming out of the woodwork.
Jeb, we don’t care. Comprende?
Jeb! , go away!
Jeb, you’re clueless.
That's why he would never win a presidential election. Hillary would have beat the crap out of him and he'd sit there smiling and taking it just like his brother and daddy used to do. Conservatives were tired of Republican presidents who don't mind being punching bags for the Left.
Spoken like the loser he it.
Yep, worth repeating, well said.
GOOD!
I would be delighted to read the list of ‘Principles’ that Jeb Bush thinks he adheres to.
Mike Murphy, another Cheap Labor Express stooge.
I never do what Trump did
I took that to mean.....
Hed never speak directly to the American people and promise them jobs, less regulations, less immigration from third world countries, etc., etc.
Hes right. Hed never do that because hes a worthless piece of c.........
Oh, Yeb! would stick to his convictions, flooding the country with fraudulently documented foreigners just as his father and brother did.
The fundamental transformation of the USA into North Mexico.
