Johnson certainly has less in common with the Dem that the GOP candidate.

He's got more of a gripe with the social conservatives in the Republican Party, so he won't mind seeing a Democrat win.

Bill Weld, his running mate last time, is similar.

People who say "it's all about the money" have to deal with the fact that for some people cultural affiliations or social views are more important than their views on economics.

Rand Paul has endorsed Gary Johnson over GOP nominee Mick Rich, who’s campaign manager quit a week or so ago.

Some people were under the impression Rich might withdraw, because they reported after the deadline passed that he did not do so.

Imagine if he went thru four campaign managers like Katherine Harris did. That would make him super electable according to her die hard fans here.

Frankly, I don’t see this as a winnable race, either way. Johnson should’ve run as a Republican.

Gee whiz, how many times did I see that photo put up by the sycophants who insisted she could take down Nelson.

Gary Johnson is MORE of a liberal than a republican, I think he will pull more votes from the Dem than the republican!!!

If Rich withdrew, Johnson indeed might have a chance. But Johnson would be no different than Angus King. I can’t see him voting with us on anything, especially immigration or defense or the courts.

I don’t know what’s up with Gary Johnson (most of his support was soft I guess) but he’s running a bad 3rd in every recent poll so I see no reason not support Mark Rich, Heinrich will unfortunately win with at or around 50%, seeing him get in with 47 or 48% would reek of a missed opportunity.

Johnson is back about where I thought he might be. He was never a serious contender despite LS’s high hopes. Heinrich may win with under 50%, but there was never going to be a way to merge the opposition to him under one candidate. Gov. Martinez probably should’ve run, even if she didn’t pull it out. She would’ve forced the Dems to spend a lot of money here.

He’s within one and seven of the R.

But Rich is totally topped out. Had he supported Johnson, Heinrich would be finished. It was a badly missed opportunity.

I think you get “hard” Rs that won’t flip-—but if Rich had thrown his support, I’m pretty confident Johnson would have made a real race of it.

Rich has never gotten out of the 20s.

Two late Oct polls that RCP has

KOB TV, Heiny 52%, Rich 37%, Johnson 7%(!)

Emerson, Heiny 48%, Rich 32%, Johnson 16%

I’m a “hard” R but I would certainly vote for Johnson if he was running ahead of Rich (and I lived there). In fact I endorsed him over on Dave Leip’s Atlas but I’m probably gonna change that now.

In this case, Johnson should endorse Rich.

I love you, man, but you have a bad blind spot on this race. I don’t know what group of Republicans you were talking with in NM that said Johnson could beat Heinrich. I think they were probably pulling your leg. Johnson was never remotely serious or credible as a candidate. He’s a bonafide nutter, total fringe. His stance on drugs make Democrats look sane and responsible.

If Rich got out, half of his voters or more would NEVER vote for Johnson, they’d not vote in the race at all. If he gets 10% now, I will be surprised. He might not even get 7%. If the anti-Heinrich voters are smart, they need to coalesce behind Rich and get him to the high 40s and leave Scary Gary in the dust.

I don’t know, I think Johnson with no Republican in the race and the tacit support of the state GOP (or Johnson AS the Republican nominee) might have had a chance. Heinrich is not strong.

But Johnson’s collapse in the polls perhaps indicates he wouldn’t he prevailed. He’s not a very good campaigner I don’t think. Also he wouldn’t have had the President’s endorsement.

I wanted LT Governor John Sanchez in the race rather than the damaged Martinez, him or Steve Pearce or even Heather Wilson again. Or Aubrey Dunn, a statewide officeholder, though he bombed out of his bizarre Libertarian run.

Johnson could not have won a Republican nomination. He was actively trying to take votes away from them in his two Presidential runs. Rewarding him for doing that — especially against Trump ?! Nope. As I’ve said countless times, his time to have run was in 2000. That’s long since passed.

Sanchez didn’t have the fire in the belly to run (he didn’t want to run for Governor, either). He may have run some private polls indicating he wouldn’t make it. I’m hoping Pearce still pulls it out for Governor. Lujan Grisham will be a fiasco. Heather Wilson didn’t want to go down that road again for Senator.
