Trump winning perception game: Kathleen Parker
The Erie Times-News ^ | August 1, 2018 | Kathleen Parker, The Washington Post

Two distinct realities coexist in the nation’s capital with the approximate compatibility of oil and water.

There’s the reality of 4.1 percent economic growth, full employment, a declining trade deficit and some wage growth.

And then there’s Michael Cohen.

While President Donald Trump was focused on his sunny economic report Friday — and on tariff deals the days before — the media were obsessed with news that the president’s former attorney was prepared to tell special counsel Robert Mueller that Trump knew in advance about the June 2016 campaign meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Russians who allegedly had dirt on Hillary Clinton.

If true, then Cohen would be contradicting prior statements by both Trump men, including Trump Jr.‘s testimony before a congressional committee. Whatever the case, the president has engineered an offensive strategy that could soften the effects of Cohen’s news and most certainly will further fuel Americans’ disgust with journalists.

Publicly, he has appeared more statesmanlike, less impetuous, more disciplined, calm and composed. In other words, Trump hasn’t been himself. Distinctly missing last week was his usual puffed-up scowl; absent was the simmering rage coursing through his carotids. Despite troubling news about Cohen; about hush money paid to a Playboy model during the 2016 campaign that Trump also allegedly knew about despite his denial; and a subpoena calling the Trump Organization’s chief financial officer to testify — Trump seemed oddly at peace. Behind closed doors, he may have been dismembering insects, but at public events he seemed to have just emerged from hot yoga....

“.....could soften the effects of Cohen’s news...”

Which version? That’s the problem with Cohen. In some legal situation, Cohen has told various versions, and it’s pretty much worthless to get him in front of some jury. If I were sitting there, I’d have to discount anything he said unless some 3rd party was there to validate the story.

Trump knew in advance about the June 2016 campaign meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Russians who allegedly had dirt on Hillary Clinton.

Neither Trump Jnr’s meeting with any Russian to dig up dirt on crooked Hilary, nor Donald Trump knowing or not knowing about it, is illegal. It’s all perfectly legal.
If Donald Trump knew about the meeting and said he did not know about the meeting, that does not break any laws. If lying to the media were a crime, 99% of the Congress critters in Washington DC would be in jail, starting with Chucky Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Adam Schiff.

It’s probably been decades since any WaPo or NYT columnists — including their house “conservatives” have voted for an actual Republican. Certainly they haven’t voted for a real conservative.

Actually, the clam, composed statesman is who I expect to see whenever Trump is happy about something. And the blustery guy is who Trump is when he is faced with rank stupidity. In other words, Trump is very much being himself; it's just the media who chooses to see an unstable mental case.

Were any of these statements made under oath?

Yep - after 9-11, she seemed to have seen the light and was talking very conservative...time heals all wounds and also makes leftists forget what Freedom is all about.

It's been a long time since Kathleen had anything to say that I needed to hear. She sounded conservative for about a year and then reverted - and may have even moved further Left since.

“Trump knew in advance.”

So did Hillary’s camp, as the Russian lawyer was debriefed by Fusion GPS before AND after the meeting, and had a special visa created by someone high in the Obama administration.

The Enemedia is ticked off that PDJT is ruining their ability to construct a totally negative perception of him.

Finally we have a president who can talk directly to the people without going through the filter of those who hate him.

Kathleen, the perception is that way only because the reality is that way. Trump really is getting deals done, improving the economy and bringing the Fallen home while the MSM really is desperately trying to spin everything in a negative light and trying to gin up a story that has no substance behind it in order to take potshots at him.

Recent polling showed that Trump/Collusion was so far down the leader board of voter concerns that it didn’t register a percentage.

But keep doubling down Dims...

Of course he is, otherwise I wouldn’t have typed that.

Or maybe it was the bizarre spell check on that device changing random words on me. It was worse before I turned off the spell check; often what appeared was pure gibberish.
