I have recently decided to run for one of New Mexicos seats in the US Congress.
My platform is very simple, consisting of only two or three* points:
Both the Republican- and the Democrat-Party are all-talk and no action.
The Republican party bills itself as for government accountability and fiscal responsibility yet what did they do in response to the NSAs espionage program? Nothing. And when the Debt ceiling was reached, did they as-a-party push for expenditures to be cut rather than the debt ceiling to be increased? Nope.
Likewise the Democrat party bills itself as for the working-man but did the Democrat party push against the H1B visa fraud scams that are so prevalent in the technology industry? Nope. And lets not forget the collusion and conspiracy the party did to promote Hillary Clinton above Bernie Sanders.
Ill run under whichever party will take me. Given my platform I dont imagine Ill "make friends" in the Senate, precisely because a lot of people, even in the Senate, are benefiting from the current culture of corruption.
If you teach a man to fish, he’ll fish for a day. But if you elect a Fish, you’re hooked for life.
Thank you for all that info.
Good luck in your efforts.
Have you considered running as a Libertarian?
I don’t know if you agree with their ‘free dope for all’ platform, but the stuff you have written about would be a good fit with them, and they are much more tolerant of trying to elect political novices than either ‘Democraps’ or ‘Repubelicans’.
60F next week in Nashville.
Might melt all the drifts.
Cool, huh? Work the sympathy while ya can . . .
LOL — That's great!
Do you mind if I use it?
You're welcome.
Good luck in your efforts.
Thank you.
Have you considered running as a Libertarian?
Not really.
I don’t know if you agree with their ‘free dope for all’ platform, but the stuff you have written about would be a good fit with them, and they are much more tolerant of trying to elect political novices than either ‘Democraps’ or ‘Repubelicans’.
Hm, thank you for the advice.
As far as the Free Dope
goes, I've not done weed and think the smell is pretty terrible — so as far as Cannabis goes, I don't have a horse in the race. That said, the War on Drugs is absolutely devastating to Constitutionalism, especially when you look at how the policies and reinforcing/upholding them via the Judiciary sets up precedence that degrades most of the Bill of Rights… in that sense I do have a horse, because a government unrestrained is a tyranny I do not wish to come about.

We haven’t gotten so much as a snowflake here despite the frigid temps.
BTW, I asked the AdminMod to move the thread from the News forum to the GOP forum where I thought it was more appropriate. I didn’t ask the Mod to delete Mr. Fish’s Pinging of the NM list. However, the NM list was Pinged by me in post #32 so the members are aware of this thread.
Thank you very much.
Ditto. the smell literally nauseates me.
Good man.
Happy New Year.
I still want John Sanchez to get into this race. President Trump should start courting him.
Former ABQ Mayor Richard Berry is another potential candidate.
Rich seems fine, for a 2nd tier candidate that would have little chance, unfortunately.
Fish who give ignorant answers like “Ill run under whichever party will take me.” and don’t even know who’d they’d be running against and who think the 2012 nomination was STOLEN FROM RON PAUL should stick with swimming in the river and leave Senate campaigns to serious people. Or maybe wise up, realize that running as a Republican is the only sensible course of action in our system for anyone who is not Marxist and realize that they have no prayer at a Senate race and set their sights on State House or county commissioner if they actually want to make a serious effort at gaining elective office instead of just goofing off.
My mom bought some Denver sole at Whole Foods but she thinks they gave her skate by mistake, she said it was good though.
Oh it is not that, it is the mind est of the Democrat Party which is that based in Marxist Communism through the entire party. Besides that, you would not be able to accomplish anything along conservative values through that party. On the other hand, while the Republican Party has many uniparty sycophants it still does possess some with conservative values.
I think you are way too naive if you believe that you could even begin to be effective in the Democrat Party, as being effective as a conservative in the Republican Party is a real challenge.
In other more simpler words, the Democrat Party is a lost cause, while the Republican Party still offers a glimmer of hope to recapture for conservatism. As the Marxist communists have proven, it is easier to overtake an existing party then it is to take over via a 3rd party. Note also, that they were patient enough to invest 40 years in that transformation of the Democrat Party.
opposition researchgenerally a waste of time and energy.
Sanchez has hemmed and hawed for too long. If his heart isn’t in it, dragging him in won’t help. He really hasn’t had much to do for the past 7 years and he was never close to Gov. Martinez, either.
Mayor Berry, unfortunately, comes off of 8 years of subpar leadership and a much worsened crime rate in Albuquerque. He’s also been obsessed with building an expensive and unnecessary street car (for which, apparently, the local businesses effected do not want). It’s bizarre. The city elected a Democrat (NM State Auditor Tim Keller) handily to succeed him, which didn’t speak well to his legacy. If he runs for Senator, they’ll paint him as incompetent on crime and a spendthrift (yeah, irony coming from a Dem, but still).
1)I didn’t say it was ignorant to be honest.
2)For several reasons
a)It doesn’t work that way, you get to choose which if any party label you want to run under
b)The idea that the democrats might want someone of your ilk is laughable. Everyone who agrees with you votes Republican or Libertarian.
c)Democrats are no action you say? They take drastic action to screw Americans every time they are in power, your false equivalency is trite. If you think each major party is just as bad the Libertarians are your clear choice. The Libertarians are at best irrelevant and at worst play spoiler and help elect democrats, few here on FR are interested in them or their candidates. Serious people recognize that working within a major party is only course that could possibly be successful. For non-Marxists the GOP is the only option.
3)Ron Paul got about 11% of the vote in the 2012 primaries, 4th place, give me a break
4)Oppo research is not the only reason to know something about your opponents. Maybe one agrees with you and you don’t need to run, you wouldn’t know.
My advice if you are a serious person who wants to get elected and help the country, join the liberty/Ron Paul wing of the GOP and look to run for some office you actually could win, State House or something local, those offices are actually very important and a person could make a difference there. You have as much chance of getting elected to the Senate this year as I have of winning the lotto, random guys off the street don’t win statewide races, they usually get 1% or less, most voters being entirely unaware of them. It sounds unlikely to me that you could collect enough signatures to get on the ballot, and if you did get on you’ll go no where without big money for advertising, you can win local office without raising big money. After serving awhile you’d have the name recognition to run for a higher office if you so desired.
Sure it would help, candidates have been “dragged in” before and won. I am interested in winning the seat, I think that requires a stronger candidate than Rich. Every effort should be made to recruit one, Sanchez being the obvious choice. If not then we roll with Rich.
ABQ is dem place at this point, and a strong dem ran, I can’t blame the outgoing GOP Mayor for the office not being held. I guarantee Berry would run stronger in the ABQ area than Rich.
It won’t help if the candidate isn’t motivated to run. Sanchez just doesn’t seem interested at this point to have a go. Berry seemed more interested in running for Governor, but since Congressman Pearce was the most motivated to do so, Berry has nowhere to go (except maybe for Congress (NM-1), but he’ll still face the same criticisms that he wasn’t a good Mayor).
It won’t be a cakewalk for Keller as Mayor. A Conservative Democrat/Republican coalition rules the City Council.
Cool. What are the deets on this coalition? I can’t find nuffin.
I read this blog (left-wing partisan Dem, to be sure), but it’s comprehensive on NM/ABQ politics:

Scroll down to the Dec 6th, 2017 entry which describes how the centrist Hispanic Westside Dems on the council elected one of theirs as President with the support of 3 Republicans and 3 Dems, leaving the 3 far-left Dems shut out. They won’t let Keller indulge his more left-wing inclinations (the blog author unleashed some anger about that in the 12/18/2017 entry):
