Steve King: Trump base may dump him over Dreamers deal
The Washington Examiner ^ | September 14, 2017 | Susan Ferrechio

The House GOP's staunchest opponent of illegal immigration said President Trump is now at risk of losing his base of supporters after supposedly cutting a deal to legalize more than 800,000 young people who arrived in the United States illegally as children.

Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, said he stands by a Wednesday night tweet that proclaimed Trump's base "is blown up, destroyed, irreparable, and disillusioned beyond repair," after he dined with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

The two Democrats left the White House proclaiming they had reached a deal with Trump on the so-called Dreamers that would legalize them and even provide a pathway to citizenship, otherwise known as "amnesty" to opponents like King.

"If they see amnesty coming out of the White House, that is the one thing that will crack his base," King said Thursday. "They are loyal Trump supporters but the most important plank in that platform is the rule of law. If that is blown up here in their negotiations, whether it is his intention or not, they are not going to have a leg to stand on when they press others to defend our president."

Democrats say Trump agreed to deal to legalize the Dreamers and Pelosi added later that Trump supports an eventual "earned path" to citizenship for those eligible for the program.....

For me, the “dreamers” are low down on the priorities list. Much more important are the economy, reducing federal regulations, lowering taxes, reducing the size and scope of the federal government, and building the wall.

How would Steve King know what Donald Trump’s base is thinking?

Being a congressman from Iowa, he thinks he’s a kingmaker.

Yes.
I don't worship any man. I only worship God. You cant just give your word to 62 million voters, then turn round and do the exact opposite and stab them in the back.

Because he is part of Trump’s base. There are no Trump base members in Iowa?

Bye.

Well keep on, and you will be right back in 2020 acting like you never went anywhere when the Dems present you with Sanders/Harris.

Then that is on you!

“Hey, let me put a gun in my mouth, and pull the trigger because I got part a loaf, when I wanted the whole bakery signed over to me!”

I figured some of you were actually more happy with Obama in office, seeing how desperate you want another Dem running the place.

King is to the right of Trump and has been since forever. He is probably the most reliable conservative we have in elected office. Don’t be ignorant of who our allies are.

But all the idiots will scream the sky is falling.”

Welcome to the political movement that has the nerve to call the left snowflakes.

Let’s look at what Trump has already done. His Refugee vetting program had been close to 100% been ruled Constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court, big Win. He appointed Judge Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, big Win. The Trump Administration just announced a suspension of all Visas from 4 countries who have not accepted citizens of their who have committed crimes her in the U.S. and been deported, big win. This could be a trial balloon and a warning shot to other countries to accept deportees back to their countries, big win.

Trump has gotten rid of “unnecessary business regulations” (there are such things as appropriate regulations) which have helped spur solid economic growth, big win.

Deporting Dreamers is not supported by significant amounts of Republicans in the U.S. Senate. Give them green cards, not citizenship, for say 10 years. Those that go to college, serve in the U.S. Military, serve as police officers, fire fighters, etc, can then petition for citizenship after 10 years of a trial green card period and go through the naturalization process like every other immigrant. You put language in the law that if a Dreamer commits a crime, they can be deported. You get the Dems on board but push back on ICE enforcement and increased funding for border patrols to stem more illegal immigration. You neuter this as a political issue in 2018 that the Dems and liberal media can use against Trump.

Heck, the last major Tax Reform deal passed in the country was by Reagan in 1986 which required President Reagan to sit down and work with Tip O’Neil of Boston. No reason Trump can sit down with the Dems on this issue, in my view.

That was then, this is now.

Do you realize how totally ineffective the treasonous GOP is with the Lying Left? The Left laughs at the GOP and doesn’t budge. The GOP are wimps. This guy comes out of this meeting with these corrupt Leftists and says things essentially like Trump’s finished. Again.

Fugeddabouddit.

First post I’ve read on this. Happy to read Freepers are okay on this. Been reading Twitter, and the revolt of Trump’s base because of this DACA thing has been trending.
