John Danforth can comfort himself over that if he likes by asserting that Trump doesn’t represent Republicans, but Republicans themselves have been pretty clear over the past 26 months what their view of that is.

Cool.

One also needs a nice long length of chain to keep the shaft down so the flukes dig in.

Maybe the appropriate response should be :”Perhaps the good senator from Pennsylvania could tell us exactly what the GOP DOES stand for?”

Absolutely correct, used to drive my dad nuts, when he would see boaters just using line, and no length of chain.

Makes you wonder what would have happened to the GOP in the 90s if Newt never came along.

After Reagan, those people have been nothing but a blanking joke without Gingrich, Limbaugh, Palin, the Tea Party and Trump.

The Republican party no longer stands for what Republicans stand for! Its become the minor league for the Democrat Party!

That is the reason I voted for him. Both parties need to clean themselves out and show they are for the people Not their own pockets.

Ah. Tautog. Nothing tastier than these bulldogs. Nice humanlike teeth. Need to fish in the bolderfields and around bridge pilings. Then if your not fast they’ll wrap your line around those structures.

Alas, they are no where near as plentiful as they used to be.

No Mr. Danforth YOU either never did or quit representing what the GOP stands for - small limited government, low taxes & low spending, respect for the Constitution about judicial activism, hard on national security but not the globalist “new world order, pro “free trade” but not unfair trade, stable currency not federal reserve money printing, pro free enterprise but not crony-capitalism or the complicated tax code that is fed by and serves that form of capitalism, and other GOP traditions many incumbent GOP politicians abandoned. That is why you Mr Danforth are no longer an elected GOP official. You abandoned the party so the party left you behind.

Former GOP Senator:..... Trump Doesn’t Represent What The Republican Party Stands For

There's very little that the Republican Party actually does stand for - they will back down on every stated conservative principle if the liberal press and Democratic politicians call them racist, sexist or some other "ist". The three things that Republicans can be counted on to stand for are hanging on to power at all costs, despising and insulting the conservatives who vote for them, and refusing to support their own president because he's not one of their club.

Rev. Lovejoy (aka John Danforth) gets one right but fails to understand the significance of his observation.

I could have told you that. He’s a New York old style patriotic pro-American labor Harry Truman Democrat. Which means means he has no place in today’s Marxist-Leninist Democrat Party, or in the self congratulatory happiest in minority Republican Party. But he represents a broad swath of the American citizenry which neither party serves.

We accomplished nothing more than lowering taxes for people like Danforth. And now they don’t need us and the way they really think comes out.

Danforth didn’t like Reagan very much either. When Reagan’s poll numbers went down, before the economy recovered, he was very happy. He felt like he didn’t have to vote with him anymore. That is exactly what the RINOs continue to do, watch fake polls for an excuse not to do what Trump wants.
