Learn from illegals and stay 15-20 per apartment. Cheap rent when it’s divided by 20!

They take so many breaks and do so little while they’re in session. Earn it first.

"No working person in this country can go to their boss and say I should get an extra $30,000 a year to help pay my rent."

1) I know for a fact that congress-scum get an allowance for living expenses. Plus slush funds for "incidentals".

They get paid staff, full bennies, and allowances so they can travel back to wherever they came from, and mingle with their constituents.

They get $ for free mailers and other campaign materials, and free postage to send them out.

2)Why the hell does Chaffetz care?

Isn't he resigning in the next few weeks?

He's just being a typical inside the beltway a-hole, trying to grab as much goodies as he can as he exits.

Probably trying to pad his ill-deserved pension.

A law should be enacted requiring each state to maintain a residence it deeps appropriate for each member of congress from their state. They can build a dormitory or luxury housing or anything in between. Members, of course would be free to pay for substitute residences out of their own pockets. As members retire, their accommodations would go to the replacement. It would help to keep down the increasing home prices around DC and lessen their offending consequences on neighbors.

Personally I recommend a GP Medium tent, field showers and field kitchens.

I think that President Truman said that the only way you could get rich as a member of Congress is to steal.

Yes, is it not amazing how they arrive in DC with little and earn a modest (by D.C.standards) salary.

And presto! Next thing you know, they’re multimillionaires.

Lyin Ryan came by his fortune the old fashioned way—he married it. His wife is a wealthy Democrat donor.

Better yet move congress to Lebanon Kansas which is the real center of the USA,and preserve all the historical buildings just for tourism. Dump the congresscritters in the middle of nowhere. What lobbyists will want to get mired in cowpies?

How about a trade. Congress gets their $30k per diem but then has to live with the same health care they sign into law. If they want anything extra, just like Medicare, they have to pay for it like a drug plan or extra benefits. No more dental or optometrist coverage.

It is expensive to live there and they are doing the peoples work. Let them also have the same benefits but we will pay for their housing.

I wonder if Cheffettz is going to make a habit of all this whining...

Being a representative was supposed to be a service, not a career.

Build them a barracks.

“Wasn’t there a member awhile back who slept in his office? I guess it wasn’t Jason. Perhaps they should have dorms, if they absolutely have to be there.”

That was Jason. He made a big show about it early on in his career. He did it to save money.

Fort Washington. And during off hours they could keep watch on the Potomac to warn of invasion. Can’t have the Brits torching the White House again.

No, they should stay in dormitories while in DC, as they did in the beginning of the country.

Or, they could just quit and go home.

They’re worthless anyway.

How about we double the salary, but take away all the other perks you get that the general public doesn’t. Double your salary and require you to sign a contract stating that you will not lobby for at least 10 years after leaving office, and will never use a dime from campaign funds for anything other than campaigning.
