Donald J. Trump won the white working-class vote over Hillary Clinton by a larger margin than any major-party nominee since World War II. Instead of this considerable achievement inspiring introspection, figures from the heights of journalism, entertainment, literature and the Clinton campaign continue to suggest that Mr. Trump won the presidency by appealing to the bigotry of his supporters. As Bill Clinton recently said, the one thing Mr. Trump knows is how to get angry white men to vote for him.
This stereotyping of Trump voters is not only illiberal, it falsely presumes Mr. Trump won because of his worst comments about women and minorities rather than despite them.
In fact, had those people who agreed that Mr. Trump lacked a sense of decency voted for Mrs. Clinton, she would have been elected the next president.

Blizzard in Hell right now
From the article :
Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Trump equally won over party loyalists. Yet about one in five voters did not have a favorable view of either candidate. These voters overwhelmingly backed Mr. Trump. Exit polls demonstrated that if voters who disapproved of both candidates had divided evenly between them, Mrs. Clinton would have won.
Several weeks before the election, a Quinnipiac University poll found that 51 percent of white working-class voters did not believe that Mr. Trump had a sense of decency and ranked Mrs. Clinton slightly higher on that quality.
But they were not voting on decency. Indeed, one-fifth of voters more than 25 million Americans said they somewhat disapproved of Mr. Trumps treatment of women. Mr. Trump won three-quarters of these voters, despite their disapprobation.
Bluntly put, much of the white working class decided that Mr. Trump could be a jerk. Absent any other champion, they supported the jerk they thought was more on their side that is, on the issues that most concerned them. Hmmm...
Sheeeeyit. The NYTwits distance themselves from their own.
Hopefully the New York Times FIRES this guy - they can’t afford to let the TRUTH leak out.
But bigotry certainly tried to keep him from getting elected!
Bigometry
This is an op-ed. The author is not a member of the NYT editorial board, and apparently not a member of the NYT staff.
Donald Trump won the Presidency because Hitlery is a venomous harridan!
For many decades, I have disrespected politicians. I can only think of two politicians that I would have considered statesman, that would be Goldwater and Reagan.
Years ago, I had a couple in my congregation that had a multitude of cats and dogs in the house that were not cared for and the house smelled like a litter box.
They would come to church and they smelled just like their house.
They didn’t notice the smell, but everyone else did.
Such are politicians. They get into Washington and are there so long, they don’t realize that they stink.
We need to stop electing lifetime politicians to office, have term limits for politicians and apply the same standards to bureaucrats.
Ah. So their reputation remains intact. Thanks for the heads up.
Blatant Nepotism and Cronyism De-Elected Shrillary Clintoon...
The editors are on “Holiday” vacations.
Sure it did. Hillary’s a bigot.
The people elected Trump, who are sick and tired of the Obama-Hillary lies.
bkmk
One of Bergoglios new cardinals, Joseph Tobin, said in the NYT that Trump appeals to racism.
Our first pro-abortion Pope appoints pro-abortion bishops and cardinals.
Nothing says, I want to win back your vote like calling patriotic working-class Americans ignorant bigots and openly disdaining and condescending to them. Thank you, Dims.
Trump won the people who did not like or trust either candidate. He also won a good chunk of the women who said his comments made them unhappy or angry. And he won independents. And over a million voters voted a straight democrat ticket but did not vote for her. 85 thousand in Michigan alone.
So, the real problem in this election is that people really did not like Hillary. Maybe because of her past lying and scandals. And maybe because all of the new lying and the new scandals. Either way she is repugnant to lot of voters. Even more repugnant than Trump.
