Donald Trump Expected to Contest Michigan Vote Recount

President-elect Donald J. Trump is expected to officially object Thursday to Green Party candidate Jill Stein’s request for a laborious hand-recount of the state’s nearly 4.8 million ballots. Trump was declared the winner of the state’s 16 electoral votes by a margin of 10,704 votes on Monday.

Fred Woodhams, a spokesman for the Michigan Secretary of State Office, said the objection would be filed by the end of day Thursday. Stein filed her recount request Wednesday, along with a check for $973,250 to cover the costs to recount ballots in Michigan’s 6,300 precincts.

Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said Wednesday the recount will cost more than $5 million, most of it to be borne by Michigan taxpayers. The state Republican party went further, suggesting costs could soar to $12 million.

The recount was expected to begin Friday, but Trump’s request could delay it, perhaps until Tuesday, The Detroit News reported.

Trump has been critical of the recount request, calling it “ridiculous” and “a scam.”

“This recount is just a way for Jill Stein, who received less than 1 percent of the vote overall and wasn't even on the ballot in many states, to fill her coffers with money, most of which she will never even spend on this ridiculous recount," the president-elect said in a statement.

Ronna Romney McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party, has called the request by Stein a “temper tantrum” that won't change the outcome of the vote. Stein and her attorneys have acknowledged there is no evidence of fraud or impropriety but raised questions about 85,000 ballots with “blank votes” in the presidential race — more than enough to make up for the difference separating Trump and Clinton.

The recount requests came after a prominent group of election attorneys and computer scientists, including University of Michigan computer science professor J. Alex Halderman, claimed to have uncovered “persuasive evidence” that the election results in the three battleground states could have been hacked.

Stein has also made requests for recounts in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Stein lost a bid for a hand-recount in Wisconsin, but a majority of the counties plan to pursue that option, their right under Wisconsin law. In Pennsylvania, at least six counties have received recount petitions, but the situation in the Keystone State is more complicated than in Michigan and Wisconsin.

Stein is crazy. She now claims, “Wisconsin uses voting machines that are outlawed, they are illegal.”

What I find interesting from pretty much any media reports are words like “baseless” in regards to Trumps assertion of 2 million illegal votes, yet those terms are not used against Stein for her assertion that Russia hacked the voting machines.

That was just simply Philadelphia completing it’s official count to be certified. Trump has the lead by about 46000 still. My understanding from elsewhere here that there are a few pro Trump counties that are just finishing up their tallies to be certified.

After an election campaign in which it was common to hear people say they didn’t like either candidate, is it surprising that there might be 85,000 ballots where there was no vote for President (just for the other offices)?

Stein is absolutely a front for Clinton, whose campaign is advertising for workers to help with the recount!.

I gave a 100% guarantee Trump would win the election. I am now giving a 100% guarantee Trump will win the Electoral College vote.

I read the numbers here on FR today, but haven’t been able to find the thread again.

I’m not sure it was a recount, maybe the “certified” or “officially submitted” count.

Anyway, the difference was about 20k votes for hillary in and around philly, plus a few more state wide. I think Trump picked up 5k more, but the overall result was a decrease in margin of victory for him.

Still larger than the .5% max margin that would trigger and automatic recount.

Those numbers are only being reported by DecisionDesk. I am still looking, but have yet to find those numbers from any other source.

Pennsylvania Department of State website shows Trump leading by ~67,000 votes. I believe that is only from DecisionDesk and hasn't been confirmed by other sources.

We’re still smoking cigars and drinking Scotch, though!

My next door neighbor is an election worker of some sort, and he’s having a 30 person election worker party this weekend. Never saw the man so exciting about anything like this.

This is what it’s all about...getting their hands on those undervotes.
