President-elect Donald J. Trump is expected to officially object Thursday to Green Party candidate Jill Steins request for a laborious hand-recount of the states nearly 4.8 million ballots. Trump was declared the winner of the states 16 electoral votes by a margin of 10,704 votes on Monday.
Fred Woodhams, a spokesman for the Michigan Secretary of State Office, said the objection would be filed by the end of day Thursday. Stein filed her recount request Wednesday, along with a check for $973,250 to cover the costs to recount ballots in Michigans 6,300 precincts.
Secretary of State Ruth Johnson said Wednesday the recount will cost more than $5 million, most of it to be borne by Michigan taxpayers. The state Republican party went further, suggesting costs could soar to $12 million.
The recount was expected to begin Friday, but Trumps request could delay it, perhaps until Tuesday, The Detroit News reported.
Trump has been critical of the recount request, calling it ridiculous and a scam.
This recount is just a way for Jill Stein, who received less than 1 percent of the vote overall and wasn't even on the ballot in many states, to fill her coffers with money, most of which she will never even spend on this ridiculous recount," the president-elect said in a statement.
Ronna Romney McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Michigan Republican Party, has called the request by Stein a temper tantrum that won't change the outcome of the vote. Stein and her attorneys have acknowledged there is no evidence of fraud or impropriety but raised questions about 85,000 ballots with blank votes in the presidential race more than enough to make up for the difference separating Trump and Clinton.
The recount requests came after a prominent group of election attorneys and computer scientists, including University of Michigan computer science professor J. Alex Halderman, claimed to have uncovered persuasive evidence that the election results in the three battleground states could have been hacked.
Stein has also made requests for recounts in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Stein lost a bid for a hand-recount in Wisconsin, but a majority of the counties plan to pursue that option, their right under Wisconsin law. In Pennsylvania, at least six counties have received recount petitions, but the situation in the Keystone State is more complicated than in Michigan and Wisconsin.
At this stage, I’m almost completely out of popcorn...headin’ to Costco for more...
Oh look! A Republican who stands up for himself and counter-punches!
MAGA!!!!
Still don’t see how blank ballots would change anthing..even if true.
Which it is likely not cause ALL leftist are liars!
This this Republican President is going to take your crap???
NOPE...this American President fights back...So Chill Jill your finished and the donkey you borrow from Hillary...
Am I thinking too darkly on this? Could Stein be a way to appears hands off for the Clinton machine to get a recount. Other words is the Clinton campaign kicking something back to Jill Stein for pursuing this recount?
good job. I was hoping he would use a little more time ( he has 7 days ), but this will do.
Considering how long it took Michigan to count the 1st time, by the time all this is done, DT will be halfway through his 2nd term. lol
No that is exactly what is happening.
What that is about involves trolls who are coming here to make comments about how Dems are going to steal Michigan in that manner (if they were not going to take fake ballots being stashed in crackhouses in Detroit) and they do that to polarize the discussion. Michigan has been counted once and recounted again already, making it a fool’s errand on Stein’s part.
That is their hope. If they can keep a couple states tied up in recounts those states won’t be able to vote when the electoral college votes thus delegitimizing trump.
and Minnesota... Mills is already paying for one in the 6th (it was close) Forget the BS you hear about this state being fair, there is tons of cheating going on here.
She is enriching herself.
I’m from PA and I’ve seen the Democratic Mafia get away with a lot of shady things over the years and no one calls them on it.
My concern with PA.... why only count certain counties.... were they able to create some “new” ballots for Hillary?
“At this stage, Im almost completely out of popcorn...headin to Costco for more...”
We’ve run out of champagne toasting this victory! Budget says we go back to just beer and wine.
It wouldn't delegitimize Trump, but it would PISS OFF a whole lot of voters (D, R, I, L, G, etc) who would know that their votes were essentially tossed out -- because of the Stein (and Hillary).
It’s a carryover from the Sore Loserman tantrum in Fl. There they tried to divine intent by looking at other votes on the ballot. So if s chad hung for Bush, but the rest of the ballot was Dem they claimed the Bush vote to be for Gore. What the sitrep is now involves neverTrumpers. There were and still are large numbers who would not vote Trump but voted GOP downballot. They will try to say against all reason that a ballot such as that should be Clinton, and that a Dem ballot with no POTUS vote should also be for Clinton because no Dem could vote Trump. Cake! Eat! Like many pollsters they deny the fact that some people did not vote for POTUS out of principle
This will most certainly kill any possible recount, by the time the case is resolved it will be far to close to the federal deadline for a recount, and no court is going to risk disenfranchising the entire state by missing the electoral college deadline on December 13th.
