A new poll shows Clinton’s favorability has recently dipped among Jewish voters in New York, although she still has an overall lead in the community and in the state. The study conducted last week by Siena College Research Institute showed Clinton’s lead sliding from 51 percent in August to 45 percent, while Trump’s support grew from 25 percent to 31 percent.
Although Jews represent a small percentage of the U.S. population, according to JNS, over 90 percent of Jews will be voting—significantly higher than the 74 percent of Americans who are projected to vote. This makes the Jewish vote especially important in swing states like Florida and Ohio. New York is also a key state for the 2016 election, holding 29 electoral votes, the third largest after California and Texas.
Overall, the Siena poll shows Clinton has a significant lead, especially among the African and Latino communities, where she has over 80 percent in favor of her. Clinton also has a lead amongst Protestants in New York, with 57 percent to 30 percent in favor for Clinton to Trump. Only 12 percent of Latinos view Trump favorable, and his support amongst African Americans is just a mere 1 percent. The poll also looked at other groups including Catholics, Protestants, male, female, and the white community. Clinton and Trump are both seen more unfavorably among the white community, with 60 percent viewing Trump negatively, and 58 percent of whites seeing Clinton unfavorably.
In a comparison between all four presidential candidates, Clinton still holds the lead at 21-points, down from the 25-point lead in August in a poll of likely New York State voters. Trump has 30 percent, Gary Johnson is at 8 percent, and Jill Stein is at 3 percent.
If Trump breaks the dem hold on Jews and blacks, this will truly be a historic election.
