A recent Quinnipiac University poll has Donald Trump caught up with Hilary Clinton in some key industrial states, including Ohio and Pennsylvania. While the pundits have had a field day analyzing why hes doing better than expected there, I feel like we keep missing a key point. Its still the economy, stupid.
Weve talked a lot about the working class in this election - mostly in terms of demographics such as gender and race. As a friend of mine said recently, though, the key to that phrase is the word working. Hes right. Working is the identity a broad base of people are trying to preserve, and which feels under threat.
It feels under threat because it is. For far too much of America - todays diverse America as well as yesterdays more white male version - work is just plain going away. Or, the investment required to get good work - in education, extracurricular involvement, advanced social networks, etc. - is too far out of reach. Youre stuck and theres no way up, or out....

Thanks for your service. Especially this week end, Sir. It is so bad that I am almost afraid to fly my flag. I will but I will be loaded. I will be loaded.

Thw working class is the one that works to support the non-working classes, as well as itself, and it’s shrinking. This is why Trump always says that to make America great again, we have to first make America RICH again, which means doing what it takes to create and keep jobs here. A job is the only solution to unemployment ;-) And employment is the cornerstone of self-sufficiency and wealth creation.
It’s always about the economy. It’s really that simple. A rising tide floats all boats, and a rising economy will cure many of our countrie’s ills.
Its the working class vs the welfare generation... and the freeloaders are winning.
like what?...Once u go black u never go/come back?...I'm just learning this Rapper shit....But I get the beat brother...Talk to me Bro!!!
I agree with the article. I usually conceive of our conflict as being between “people who create valuable goods/provide valuable services for others” (the “working class”, the conservatives) and “welfare queens”. The working class also should include entrepreneurs who produce valuable goods/services; “welfare queens” should also include those fraudsters who need the force and endorsement of government to peddle their worthless goods/services, such as bureaucrats, “green” energy businesses, and NEA artists.
The divide between good (pro-God, pro-freedom) and evil (Leftism) has nothing to do with income level, or distinguishing between “white-collar” and “blue-collar” jobs.
