Building a wall is one of Donald Trump's big applause lines. But why? Some research surveys suggest that many Trump followers arent so much anti-Hispanic as they are worried about the perceived effect of immigration on their culture and pocketbooks.
Donald Trumps supporters have negative views about immigrants, particularly those who entered the United States illegally. Thats not a news flash. Mr. Trumps vow to build a wall along the southern border financed by Mexico remains one of his biggest rally applause lines.
But what, specifically, is behind this anger? Is there anything about undocumented immigration that even Trump voters see in a positive light?
Weve run across a couple of interesting studies that bear on these questions in recent days. The first is a Pew Research feeling thermometer survey that shows one reason why Trump voters, even more so than Republicans in general, think immigration is bad for the US.
The reason? Trump backers appear much more likely to believe that a growing number of newcomers in the US threatens traditional American customs and values.
Fully 60 percent of Trump supporters have at least a somewhat warm response to that statement. Only 29 percent have a somewhat cold response, disagreeing that immigrants are threatening the cultural foundations of the US.....

That should get some sort of clueless article award.
To see the future of unlimited illegal immigration, you need look no further than California.
California has become a disaster for the United States and limited government.
Ignorance is no excuse for stupidity.
Do they really want the reasons? Do they really not know?
Uh, I guess nobody told me I needed to be angry. I suppose being opposed to breaking the law is a bad thing for conservatives or something. As long as you do it legally and are “vetted”(whatever that means) I got no problem. Trespasser will be................. Uh, never mind the dog!
Try Bud dry.
When you live in an exclusive gated community in DC, YOUR daughter will NOT get followed home.
YOUR son will not get beat-up at school.
YOUR position will not be eliminated when an illegal offers to work for ONE PENNY less.
The flag-burners talk about “anger” like it’s a bad thing. Another reason is that 30,000,000 broke our laws... The same government that says Obamacare is the law of the land.
Bingo! We don't care what the race, language, or ethnicity of illegals is, it is the fact that they are ILLEGAL, and that means a whole host of facts that apparently go right over this author's head.
-illegals work under the table for below minimum wage, and pay no taxes
-as long as they can produce an anchor baby, illegals get all kinds of welfare benefits
-insanely, despite the fact that they pay no taxes and are an incredible burden on the welfare system, illegals are allowed to send their kids to school and get in-state tuition to colleges, taking slots that tax-payer's kids should have had
-illegals are also imported to feed a thriving slave industry (aka "human trafficking").
-illegals are used to smuggle drugs into the US
I'm sure many other things could be added to the list. Not surprisingly, not a single one of them involves race or ethnicity.
Immigration is not the problem, illegal immigration is.
I can understand and sympathize with people who want to come here to work and have a better life, but either we have a system or we have a free-for-all. The people I really feel sorry for are the ones standing in the line, going through all the proper steps to come here the right way. Good people, but suckers. Instead we effectively reward those who come on on temporary visas (or no visa at all) and then disappear.
Well, we were promised in 1986 that enforcement measures passed with the amnesty would make another amnesty unnecessary as there would be no illegal aliens.
The illegal aliens got the amnesty, the citizens never got the enforcement.
30 years later through R & D administrations of decreasing enforcement we now have a government openly aiding fraudulently documented foreigners invade the country.
Christian Science Monitor is the mainstream media cloaked in a choir robe.
Useless use of bandwidth electrons.
This is why American citizens with at least half a brain think that illegal (and some legal immigrants) “do not share traditional American values”
LA Raza Mexican Chicano protesters burn the American flag:
Dear Mr. Grier,
I’d suggest that you interview Kate Steinle to see if she can give you a clue.
Oh, wait... You can’t do that because she was murdered by a criminal illegal alien in a sanctuary city. Put more succinctly — FOAD.
Regards, Bob
Agreed
My wife is friends with a family who’s been trying to get their grandmother her from the Philippines for 12 years. The whole family is here legally, but can’t seem to get grandma in. I told them to fly her to TJ and pay someone a $1,000 to drive her over.
Stupid analysis We are not accounted with no borders. Try doing this in any other country and see what happens. particularly Mexico
Do any of these bleeding hearts have row-run immigrant relatives that they have sponsored? Made sworn affidavits to support them financially above the poverty level? Seen how they come here, even the good-hearted ones, and act just about like they did in their home country - ignorant of local customs, driving regulations, taxes, rabies shots for their little doggie or whatever?
I have, and I have my regrets. This country isn’t the Magic Kingdom where you can wander around starry-eyed and people will lick up after you.
Illegal aliens are NOT immigrants.
Immigrants are peole who apply to be Americans, pay their fees, wait their turn, learn the language and comply with the laws.
Illegal aliens overstay tourist visas or just break in.
American citizens are killed by these people who should not be here.
They steal billions of dollars.
The continous lying about 11 million when the real number is over 30 million is also rather irritating.
Because if we wanted to live in a ONE PARTY STATE we’d move to Cuba, or Venezuela.
What the hell is so hard to understand about that?
