Ted Cruz: Now the odds-on favorite
CNN Politics ^ | April 6, 2016 | David Gergen, Senior Political Analyst

With his decisive victory in Wisconsin, Sen. Ted Cruz has not only shaken up the Republican presidential race, but heading into the homestretch, he has suddenly become the odds-on favorite to win the nomination in Ohio.

With 16 primaries and caucuses remaining, Donald Trump has to win 70% of the delegates to secure the 1,237 needed to win a first ballot at the Republican convention. Several states are coming up that are more favorable territory for Trump than Cruz, especially New York and Pennsylvania where Trump still has significant leads.

Even so, winning more than two thirds of the remaining delegates is a daunting challenge for him. In the 36 primaries and caucuses leading up to Wisconsin, Trump won only 46% of the delegates. And now he heads down a tough homestretch with Cruz seizing the momentum.

In a year crammed with surprises, no one can say for sure what will unfold in Cleveland, Ohio. But there are two likely outcomes: First, Cruz and Trump have each vowed to vote against a change in the GOP's Rule 40. That's an obscure provision that requires any candidate to win at least eight primaries and caucuses before he or she can be nominated....

Once Ted can no longer achieve the number, will he follow his own advice?

Of course not. He's a politician. Do as I say, not as I do.

“The other 54 are free to vote their conscience.”

if they don’t vote with those they represent... then it’s corruption and those people are not being represented.

None. What’s that got to do with Gerghen? He’s been pushing this “Trump imploding” stuff for months. Here’s a “tweet of his” from over two months ago, on Feb. 3:

“Is air coming out of Trump balloon? Some signs say yes, too early to say for sure. Keep an eye out.”

He has an agenda, and he is pushing it. Like everybody else out there.
Gerghen just does it a bit more quietly.

Ah yes. Cruz will go to Cleveland hat in hand to the “Washington Cartel” and ask them to support him. Good plan...

Ted Cruz will be mathematically eliminated by April 26

And Donald Trump will be mathematically eliminated by June 7.

The GOPe will pull out every dirty trick known to man to install one of their own.

Cruz recognizes that. That's why the other day he said that there would be hell to pay if anyone other than he or Trump came out of the Convention as the nominee.

Another week of interviews and Trump will finish sinking himself. He simply does not know enough to run for president. He gets eaten alive by the media.

He knows they are BLUE states that will go trump, just as they will hillary, unless Bernie is a better pitchman with his $19 Trillion dollar tax hike.

Is he still talking about his trophy wife. I turned him off when he started that he became BORING.

Either the wind which was high enough to turn over a backyard trampoline pulled my well staked campaign sign out of the ground, blew it away, or some one Stole IT the other night, one of the few nights we’ve not had T storms this past week. Just high winds. We were supposed to have a week of sun and some cloud, No RAIN, yet it poured yesterday so hard you could not see for half an hour.

Wet weather has rotted off all my bulb plants.

Not if Ted Cruz and John Kay-SICK had any honor and dropped out. But they don't.

Since when have we taken news from the Clinton News Network, or any MSM, Huff-Post, Salon, as serious news? All are Pro Hillary. They will settle for Bernie though. Polls are always rigged toward dems.

Now many conservatives are shunning known Conservative news sources in favor of them and shunning Conservative writers like Thomas Sowell to the point of threatening his life. Because they don’t support Trump. Calling them liars, loons, or worse. You can’t have a discussion of issues, before it becomes a brawl now. With the WORSE name calling and cursing I’ve every heard calling Patriots-—Alinsky COMMIES.

I’m tired of it and about ready to bail, and I’ve been on FR a long time now.

Any articles they write will be to damage both the GOP candidates. Trump is getting FREE air time. Cruz is not because he takes the higher Reagan road. Only when Trump attacked his wife and children did he respond, with NO FREE air time. It’s been proven over and over again, Cruz did not start this it came out of Trump’s camp.

We may not be able to get rid of abortion, but we sure as fire can DE-FUND PP! with the right congressional conservatives. Who can over ride the dems votes.

Not sure how my harmless comment that Ted didn’t do well in the south and he needed to, led up to your response.

Nor am I sure why your forwarded it to Jim.

But as a fellow FReeper, I respect your response and would love to see PP defunded.

Have a good one!!

You’ve got a heartbreak coming. CRUZ is sitting in the catbird seat. While Trump was floundering around, Cruz was wheeling and dealing. The art of the deal is very important in campaigns. Trump ran an inferior campaign. *shrug*

I do. You can’t win, you get out for the good of the party. Use your leverage for the VP spot. That’s pretty much how it has always been done.

You and I have the same chance of winning on the first ballot as KAY-sick. And pretty soon, Cruz will be in the same boat.

That’s pretty much how it has always been done.

That statement reveals a shocking ignorance of history. In a contested convention, it is actually less common for the person coming into the convention with the plurality of delegates to win the nomination.
