And based on exit polling, about 40% will walk away if Trump is the nominee. But that 40% number of Trump supporters is a bit exaggerated by the Dems and independents voting in the open primaries - many of whom will go home to the Dems in the fall like they always do anyway.
Cruz being handed the nomination (but hamstrung in the general) by the establishment isn’t a fantasy. It is a nearly a surety, if Trump doesn’t get to 1237.
Handing the nomination to someone other than Cruz borders on fantasy, but remember that they control the process, and they couldn’t care less who wins the presidency, as long as their middle name is “not Trump”. They also don’t care what republican voters do in response, because they have no problem with a smaller, more easily controlled, voter base. So no, it is not fantasy to believe that the establishment would reach beyond Cruz to avoid Trump. Unlikely, perhaps, but not out of the realm of possibility. Remember the Anderson candidacy, remember Alaska, remember Delaware, remember Mississippi. They have no shame, ethics, or compunctions, and can count on a subservient press to either cover up their actions, or justify them.
Is it really nice like it looks like in the tourist pics? It looks like the Caribbean but much cleaner. Is there surfing?
Exactly how I see it JJ. And my instinct tells me that Cruz is digging in and will sink it all.
In my mind, he is the GOPe insider with taking in Bush he showed his hand.
No, even if he was in second place in the delegates, he would never accept being the second banana. It is not in his make-up. He will go back to his real estate empire and run it as the guy in charge. As James Nance Garner said, “the vice presidency is not worth a bucket of warm spit.”
There is a FReeper—GLDNGUN—who has done some calculations that shows Trump on the path to the nomination. I think it would do you good to read it:

True, but like I said after South Carolina, the time for vetting is over.
What did Cruz do? Blamed Trump for the Chicago thug-fest when he should have read Michelle Malkin’s ‘Unhinged, Liberals Gone Wild’.

If a single Trump supporter gets killed, I would not blame Trump for blaming Cruz and Kasich.
THEY FED THOSE MONSTERS.
Bottom line is, there's no way that the leader in delegates going into the convention, especially if it's a significant lead and close to a majority, is going to get "disenfranchised" and not get the nomination.
Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are primarily responsible for driving the profound enthusiasm gap we're seeing between Democrats and Republicans, as far as turnout.
It would be absolutely suicidal for the GOPe to monkey-wrench that dynamic. They might be stupid, but even the GOPe's stupidity has limits. Or at least lets hope it does.
If either Trump or Cruz get ripped off at the convention, Hillary will win automatically.
I realize that the rules might permit such a ripoff, but, practically speaking, it's just not going to happen. It's the stuff of fantasy, because Donald Trump (or Cruz) will either have a majority, or it will be close enough where it won't make any difference.
I'm officially projecting a Trump/Cruz ticket with about 67% certainty, Trump/Someone Else about 20%, Cruz/Trump 10%, and "suicidal GOPe shananigans" at about 3% or less.
I'd be interested in seeing similar projections by the other participants of this thread...
Other than yourself, do you know anyone else stupid enough to vote for Kasich going forward?
Spot on! Very well written.
So yes, Cruz should call Trump and vow to aim his fire at the democrats, at muslims, at the border threat etc.
A non-hostile campaign would be excellent. But they should compete by energizing the base rather than by bashing each other. The time for ‘taking each other down’ is past due.
the 8 state rule is irrelevant from what I have read.

the 2016 Republican Primary (S)ELECTION! yea!!
This guy is a cross between Bob Dornan & Danny Bonaduce. He’s a total shyster. And a Fibertarian (pretends to be a libertarian while not having an idea of what it really means). I hate this crook!
So if Trump gets the 1,237 they will not support him? There have been several recent polls with Trump over 50% and the best favorability ratings. If Trump has the most delegates and votes received, then denying him the nomination will destroy the GOP. And maybe it needs to be destroyed.
But that 40% number of Trump supporters is a bit exaggerated by the Dems and independents voting in the open primaries - many of whom will go home to the Dems in the fall like they always do anyway.
BS. Trump is attracting voters across all demographics. His populist, nationalistic message is resonating across traditional Dem constituencies. The issues of immigration, trade, and the border are causing Dems and independents to become involved. The GOP is a dying party thanks to rapidly changing demographics. In order to win the general election, the GOP will need these voters.
Trump's performance in FL was amazing. He beat Cruz by 650,000 votes and Rubio by 440,000. In Ohio, Trump beat Cruz by 460,000 votes. FL and OH are battleground states.
Screw the polls. Look at the Trump versus every other Republican candidate election results.
I think it is good you have modest expectations of Trump’s accomplishments as President. If Trump accomplishes more than those expectations will be cream on the top.
