One of the puzzlers of the South Carolina primary is why Marco Rubio lost.
He had the two major endorsements: Senator Tim Scott and Governor Nikki Haley. How could he lose? Haley has a 71% approval rate among Republicans.
We learned the answer this weekend.
Nikki Haley spoke to the Gridiron Club.
Yep.
She is that establishment.
Not only did she deliver the response to the State of the Union speech that blasted the Republican front-runner instead of the Democratic president, but now she is in Washington dancing to the Washington Establishment's tune.
And that tine is Never Trump.
From McClatchy:
"Even though I gave the [State of the Union] response, I won't really feel like I made it until Donald Trump demands to see my birth certificate," she joked at the dinner, a 130-year old event where journalists and politicians roast each other in speeches and songs.
Haley and the Democratic speakers, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro and Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, were serenaded with songs that teased them for being vice presidential wannabees on their respective tickets.
"By the way when I endorsed Marco [Rubio] everyone assumed we cut a deal," Haley said in her speech. "We did - he promised I could borrow his boots."
Haley found the humor in the state of her party, which is in the midst of a panicked scramble to stop Trump from being the Republican nominee.
"Reince Priebus, who I saw earlier, used the RNC to control the debate so they didn't damage the Republican brand," Haley said, turning to the Republican National Committee Chairman. "Heck of a job, Priebus." So there is Miss Establishment 2016 kissing up to Castro, who will be Hillary's running mate, and mocking Trump.
To show bipartisanship, new Democratic presidents like to pick a friendly Republican for their Cabinet. Obama's secretary of transportation. as Ray LaHood.
Nikki Haley auditioned for secretary of transportation.
Voters in South Carolina sensed that. They like her as governor, but not as secretary of transportation.
She has banned the confederate flag on government buildings right? Why would she have any support in SC anymore? Isn’t that a deal breaker even with GOPE voters? /serious questions
GOPe is too stupid to get out of the rain. Republican type voters have had enough with turncoat office holders who got elected posing as Tea Party candidates only to defect after the election. Nikki Haley is the most prominent example.
Yeah...they all get together and yuk-yuk it up on our dime and they joke and laugh and drink and party.
They (Republican Establishment) just don’t get it, nor will they ever. They live their pampered, cloistered, second-tier power lives content in the fact that the Devil on the other side will always give them at least a lamb’s share of the golden pie.
All they have to do is appease, relent, submit, and lie to and cajole their constituents in a never ending barrage of utter lies laced with a smarmy marmalade of contempt when those pesky voters act out.
They are incapable of understanding the rage out in drive by America.
She outed herself as an establishment flunkie when she endorsed Willard back in 2008 when she was in the legislature, and she did it again in 2012.
Actually many of us here in SC loathe her.

How come she didn’t outlaw Gold’s Gym t-shirts ? Those are obviously racist, too.
She seems to give the participants of Black Bike Week in Myrtle Beach plenty of ‘room to destroy’ every year.
I already knew that Haley was a Cheap Labor Express stooge, the surprise was that Tim Scott was, too.
The flag Haley took down was the ultimate affront to the men lying in those graves that gave their lives for what that flag symbolized to them.
She re-wrote history...and I see little difference between this act and the Taliban blowing up symbols in the Middle East. This was a "typical liberal" move on her part to please the blacks and radical liberals, solidly identifying her as GOPe, the liberal wing if the Republican Party.
My summer neighbor is from Columbia and when he come up in June we shall see of it's real or media payback for the Flag.
Hey Gaffer, good work!
You say; “Yeah...they all get together and yuk-yuk it up on our dime and they joke and laugh and drink and party.”
You nail our sentiments very artfully. I always see these types without their cover, bared and hiding away from the bright light of our scorn.
Says it all.
You know, if Haley had twisted it around, she could have turned the Confederate flag flap into a powerful patriotic statement that would have propelled her to a higher role in national politics. As a Northern, I've always respected the valor of the Confederate soldier. I listened to Shelby Foote's excellent audiotape on the Battle of Shilo, and the honor of the men on both sides in the Civil War makes me proud as an American. Haley made a big mistake. Because she caved to political correctness, she's now a could-have-been political figure -- another Rhino. |
At the end of the day candidates must win on their record and on their ground game.
Palin did nothing to help Trump win Iowa or Alaska.
