It’s just one poll, but it’s a doozy. If that WSJ/NBC national survey yesterday was the best data Cruz has had this year, this new one from ARG must rank among the very worst.

Agreed. Cruz is toast. Only a matter of time.

Welcome to Free Republic.

I am not surprised that you are advocating for continued strength of a GOPe candidate. That fits in with your strategy of trying to knock out Cruz and Trump, the two independent Republican candidates.

Eh, at least Rubio was born in America. I don’t think a challenge to his NBC status would be popular or successful.

I could accept Rubio as VP, despite him being a GOPe stooge. Amnesty was his worst sin and he has plenty of other flaws, but he is solidly conservative on social issues, which matters in the general, and is an area where Trump is pretty weak. Part of the battle to win November is going to be to try and get people who might not like (or even hate) Trump to still go out and hold their nose and vote.

A VP is just a figurehead when the President is strong-willed like Trump anyway. If they had a good 8 years, Trump will have changed the game and the era of the Cheap Labor Express will be over, so maybe we’d keep getting good candidates.

The only thing I worry about, and it’s totally tinfoil I admit, is if it was Trump/Rubio and they win (which I think they would, it would be a broadly appealing ticket), to what depths would the GOPe/RNC sink? Would they do the unthinkable to get rid of Trump and put their puppet in charge? The answer I keep coming back to there is “probably”.

But then again, they might do that anyway, regardless of who his VP pick is. Strange times.

Welcome to Free Republic.

You are eager to push support to Rubio and the other GOPe candidates, aren’t you?

That is the GOPe strategy: Not to try to win over the supporters of Cruz and Trump, but to try and knock them out of the race so the only choices are Bush, Rubio and Kasich. They do this by planting trolls on Free Republic and other venues to talk up the GOPe candidates and ridicule the independents in an Alinsky-like strategy.

Nice work.

Most are steady. What I think it means is that Rubio is reaping benefit from the dropouts, from pro-amnesty voters.

The GOPe are not “loving” the Trump-Cruz war. They are instigating it. They post every day with posts that don’t discuss ideas, but which try to wean us away from Trump and Cruz with ridicule and hatred of those candidates. They find a meme (Cruz=liar, Cruz=slime, Cruz=Wall Street candidate, Cruz=pro-illegal) and they hammer it over and over and over in order to make it part of the common belief among conservatives.

Don’t let them win. Call them out.

A friend of mine has said Rubio would make a good VP.

I do not want him to get the nomination for President.

He started too young, should have waited until 2020 or 2024.

He's not ready yet, no experience.

Can you imagine him as President, I can't.

You heard it here first.

Hillary bows out late for "health reasons".

As a sign of sympathy, Bernie Sanders nominates none other than...Chelsea as his running mate.

The Millenials have a collective orgasm which can be felt as far away as Jupiter.

The GOP stabs Trump and Cruz in the back, nominates Bush/Rubio at a brokered convention, and loses in a 48-state landslide.

Rubio would be a terrible VP. He is a snake and needs to crawl back in his hole. I started out open to him as to other candidates. His lying about his Gang of Eight involvement and then his lying about Cruz’s opposition to it has totally colored his character in my view. I would not vote for him for dog catcher.

If you are an original intent Constitutionalist, the you have to accept the definition of natural-born citizen that the founders used. A person who was born to parents who were both citizens is that definition. Rubio’s parents were resident aliens and that makes him a resident alien at birth.

You’ve been welcoming me and misidentifying my positions all day, so let me clarify for you, since you missed my tagline and maybe didn’t check my post history.

I support Trump. Make America Great Again!

I used to support Cruz as a good second choice. Then he let the a slimeball take over his campaign, then he doubled and tripled down on the lies and slime, and now I pretty much think he’s as phony as the day is long. He has 100+ million in PAC money, calls himself grassroots and “anti-establishment”, and my eyes almost break out of my skull from rolling so hard. That being said, if he’s the nominee, I’d vote for him.

The rest are GOPe tools that I don’t want to win at all, and would have a personal dilemma about how to vote if they did.

Hope this clears things up! :)

He’s not anchored. Per the 14th amendment he’s not even a citizen.

True. Cruz is at least a citizen at birth. Rubio is not even a citizen.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying, and don’t necessarily disagree. But I think it would be a tough sell, and a waste of effort. If Rubio were seriously challenged, we’d end up with a McCain-style congressional resolution and everyone would get on with their lives. Not saying that would be right, but that would be the outcome.

No worries. Rubio is very far from the goal post. But I would prefer Rubio over Kasich for VP. Kasich said again today on MSNBC that he is for 100% citizenship amnesty to illegals. While Rubio at least has made a slight turn away from 100% amnesty. I do not want Rubio for the top spot in 2016. Not by a long shot.

I am not a Cruzoid. Actually I favor Trump.

Cruz and Trump are the only two candidates who are willing to thumb their nose at the GOPe. When I see personal ridicule and name-calling against them by the same posters, and often using the same words to attack them, I understand that it is part of the GOPe effort to use social media to turn the rest of us against the independent Republican candidates.

The GOPe is not going to turn FReepers into fans of Bush, Rubio or Kasich. What they are going to do is attack Cruz and Trump over and over and over again to the point that staunch conservatives lose their enthusiasm for those candidates and they drop out of the race. That way, with Bush, Rubio or Kasich as the last men standing, they believe that they will compel us to vote for GOPe.

And if we don’t vote for Bush, Rubio or Kasich, well, they would rather have Hillary than Trump or Cruz in office. Of course, Sanders is throwing sand into their plan, but that is a separate issue.

Veep is in line to take the office of president if anything happens to the president.
